eyu 27 Posted July 12, 2010 (edited) I'm going to Cancun next month and want to do some snorkeling with the whale sharks in Holbox. I want to do a custom charter so we can spend time taking pics and have more leisurely encounters. Any recommendations on what outfit to use? Has anybody used Cancun Whale Shark Tours or Ecocolors Tours? Thanks, Elmer Edited July 13, 2010 by eyu
cozumeldogs 0 Posted July 13, 2010 though i have never done this you might want to look into doing the whale sharks out from Isla Mujers. Its blue water as opposed to gulf of mexico green. http://www.islawhalesharks.com/ when i did this out of Holbox we went with Marvin tours and it was fine. You had as much time as you wanted in the water. This was a few years back so I don't know how it is now. The web site I have is www.marvintours.com We just arrived on Holbox and looked him up. I imagine its a little different now since that was 5 or so years back.
Mike L 0 Posted July 29, 2010 If you are going to Holbox, call up Rodrigo at Whale Shark Daddy. Let him know I sent you. We just brought a group out a week ago, chartered his big boat (nicest charter boat on island) and had an epic time! WE have him booked for two one week sessions next year already! scorpio_fish 5 Posted July 29, 2010 (edited) If you prefer with lots of plankton snot in the green water, then Holbox is a great place. If you like blue water and the chance to see large numbers of sharks together, then Isla Mujeres is the better choice. Besides, it's a nicer location and a shorter trip from Cancun. The boat most often chartered by photogs is the Lilly M If they are booked, contact Ruben Pena at seahuahua@hotmail.com. You can charter his boat, a decent Boston Whaler, for the trip. Ruben is a great guy. BTW, chartering is the way to go. You can leave when you want and limit the passengers. Only two people plus guide in the water at once. If you do the tourist routine, you could end up rotating in and out with 8 other people at 5 minutes per rotation, which is absurd. You have to leave at 2:00pm. Many of the tourist boats are gone by 1pm. Another reason to charter the boat. Edit: If they can't find the whalesharks in blue water, they can always take you to Contoy for a green water encounter.
