TheRealDrew 0 Posted July 16, 2010 I haven't even looked at iPad is it that good? I love it for what it does and features. Would I buy it instead of a laptop? No. But it is still great. Gave my thoughts here. Since then have used it more and still love it. Got the camera connection kit and Photogene for stills, and there is alot of power to play with on that end of things. BTW 3,000,000 WP members have iPads

Jules (Helioxfilm) 1 Posted July 16, 2010 (edited) Oh well, maybe in English typographie 3,000,000 is written like this But seriously, WPQ is just a perfect fit for the iPad. And for those outside the US, it would make shipping etc much more easy - click and buy, and download is far more easy way to have such a great product on my desk Not speaking when you are demoing the iPad to friends you could do it with the best magazine ever... And, for an iPad edition, you could incorporate movies as well... Edited July 16, 2010 by Jules (Helioxfilm)

Giles 1 Posted July 16, 2010 WPQ is a perfect fit for the Ipad? I don't see that, WPQ in my mind is a perfect coffee table pick up and enjoy anytime magazine book. I am not going to leave an ipad on my coffee table for my friends to come over and go .. ooh hey whats that that looks pretty these photos are awesome etc, but I would do it with a good looking magazine or book. In my mind the big question is .. if you did have an ipad and you did want WPQ on it, would you want it cheaper than it is currently to have it in digital form? So are you wanting to pay for the content or for the format it is in. I guess this is an interesting photographic question too, do you think you photos are worth less if they are displayed digitally as opposed to in print. Jules (Helioxfilm) 1 Posted July 16, 2010 I have no authority for the prices, but I can tell you one thing: in recent years I switched my papaer based subscriptions to digital versions. I'm moving a lot, but I hate to trash old magazines I still like. The pricing question should be examined carefully, sure. And I pay for the content primarily, but at the same time the content should be packed nicely. Why would photos worth less in digital form? Does a negative film worth more than a RAW file? But I'm not a photographer...
bmyates 3 Posted July 16, 2010 Hey, if it was reasonably priced, I'd buy the iPad subscription AND the paper one! WPQ is not something I haul around on trips with me - I wouldn't want to get it all bent up and ruined - it really is a collector's piece I keep saved carefully at home. OTOH, of the 15 or so magazines I subscribe to, I've switched all but two to digital (Zinio), and I only keep those in paper form because they're not available digitally...yet. My guess is that, considering printing and shipping costs, WPQ could be sold digitally for about 2/3 the price and still be just as profitable. The biggest issue as I see it is lack of respect for copyright and pirating in many parts of the world (e.g., China), where digital copies would be passed around to thousands of people with no additional revenue to WP. As for the question of whether the iPad really is all that great, the answer - for viewing photos/videos/publications is YES - the screen is absolutely amazing for viewing. In fact, that is IMO it's PRIMARY strength. It isn't even close to a laptop for intensive "work" (e.g., processing photos in Lightroom or Photoshop), but for simply viewing publications and photographs, it beats my laptop hands down. davephdv 0 Posted July 17, 2010 Agree 100 percent. I've almost gotten to the point where if it's not the iPad it doesn't exist. If your not a videoit it's by far the best way to show your photos.
BotSO 0 Posted July 17, 2010 I have an iPad and have actually gone back and downloaded every issue of UwP Magazine just to put it on my iPad so I've got something to pass time. I'm guessing that WPQ is laid out in a program that would allow it to be easily converted into a PDF which could be easily read on an iPad using iBooks, Bookman or any of the other PDF readers out there. It could be use to incentive for print subscribers, a freebie for subscribers or something completely different. David DuChemin and friends over at CraftandVision.com have turned all their eBooks into iPad/iPod applications. I don't think WPQ has to go to an all digital format, and I will continue to subscribe as long as it's printed. However, it would be great to have it in digital form on my iPad. I also use Zinio for reading magazines that I've subscribed to in the past - Layers, Macworld, Smithsonian, etc.
cor 0 Posted July 17, 2010 Jesse Schell (who's an all-around brilliant guy, game designer, professor, disney fellow, and more) had a very interesting talk recently about external reward systems. Feel free to watch the whole thing as it's very interesting. But for this thread, listen to it between about minute 15 and 18. He totally blasts the ipad for being stupid. (his words) http://www.sirlin.net/blog/2010/2/22/exter...ng-lecture.html I just realized, iphone4 sold 3 million devices. Ipad sold 3 million devices. Have we just calculated the apple fanbase? ps: i have apple stuff all over, so no, i didnt drink the hatorade.

davephdv 0 Posted July 22, 2010 It must not use flash as I see that it was featured on an iPad. The guy with the rant about the iPad is a fool. My iPad is the best purchase I've made in several years. You just got to know what it is designed for.

davephdv 0 Posted July 22, 2010 I read about a submersible GPS. It had a fine antenna on a reel and a float at the top. You merely unreeled the antenna and you can get your GPS location. Antenna should be adaptable.
