bkkchriss4 0 Posted August 31, 2010 Will the Nauticam 7D fit sitting upright in a Pelican 1514 (1510 w. padded dividers) case? The Nauticam site says the housing is roughly 7.2" tall and the case empty is 7.6" tall. With the padded dividers and foam insert top, I am nervous that its going to be pushing on the housing... Probably fine if your just carrying on, but for me at least, the point of the carry-on Pelican vs. a soft rolling camera case (like a ThinkTank International or similar) is that if you end up being forced to check the bag, you have some security that your gear will make it intact. But if the case is pushing on the housing too much, not sure I want it being tossed around or heavy baggage pilled on top. Anyone confirm that it will fit without too much pressure pushing on the housing?
jcclink 8 Posted August 31, 2010 I'd go for something with more head room. 0.4" difference is not enough for top & bottom padding. You may have to check it someday, so pack accordingly. Down side - this may take you over the max carry-on size.
Mike L 0 Posted August 31, 2010 Ive tried putting one of these housings in the 1510 case and it was too tight for my liking. Personally I travel with my Think Tank Airport Takeoff and can pack a TON of gear. I just returned from Fiji and had this bag packed with a Nauticam 7D, Nauticam, T2i, (2) YS-110a, 3 Sola 600 lights, Zen 100 and 60mm Macro Port, all on ONE bag including ULCS arms and fiber optic cables. Ive traveled quite extensively with my think tank bags and have never had to check one. Even on this last flight to Fiji, where it was legal in size but WAY overweight (38lbs and only 14 was allowable), I showed them what was inside, paid a $35 weight fee and on it went with me. Small price to pay for making sure its all there and intact on arrival.
bkkchriss4 0 Posted August 31, 2010 Thanks Mike. Wow! Thats a lot of gear packed in the Airport Takeoff. I was thinking of that bag and/or the Airport International. I do like the ThinkTanks a lot. I have been using a Pelican 1564 which easily fits everything, but is 110% well over any sort of carry-on limit so has been going checked. I would love to see a photo of all that gear in the Takeoff if you have one!
Mike L 0 Posted August 31, 2010 Chris Ill take a quick photo or two today since I still havent unpacked it. The Takeoff to me is much better than the International. Its a hair lighter, a bit more room, and has the outer pocket so you can slip in a laptop as well. Its definitely our best selling bag.
bkkchriss4 0 Posted August 31, 2010 Thanks a lot Mike. Hmm, I was under the impression that because of the extra shoulder straps, the Takeoff was a bit smaller inside than the International v.2?

OK, that is impressive. I have the Airport Acceleration, and I don't think I could quite crap (whaa??) fit that much in there. I'd love to see a photo! Drew 0 Posted September 1, 2010 I don't think I could quite crap that much in there. I'd love to see a photo! Ummm you may want to edit? The Airport Take off is bigger than the Acceleration but slightly smaller than the International, if I remember correctly. Problem is that it weighs at least 2x that of the non-wheeled bags like the International or Acceleration.

Aussiebyron 57 Posted September 2, 2010 I would like to see a photo of fitting your setups into carryon. I was thinking about using the pelican 1510 for my Aquatica AD90. Regards Mark
