Telegraph and Namibian Shark Fishing

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Had the misfortune of reading the sunday telegraph today (UK). The travel section outlined some weekend warriors trip to Namibia where he could revel in the joys of shark fishing. Posing with the caught shark made him feel like a man apparently.

Whilst it is catch and release activity this still has a substantial mortality rate associated with it. One of the major factors relating to mortality in CR programs is handling and air exposure. Given that this was fishing from the beach and the shark was dragged up the beach to be photographed (photos only in print edition) before no doubt being wrestled back, the survival chances are probably limited.

Advertising this as a responsible activity for the phallically challenged is unacceptable....
