I must be ill, not getting too excited anymore, my D700 is still better than I am.

Ditto that for my D90. If I find a D90 limits my creative ability, then I'll head for the top of the pile, until then, well, let's just say I have a long way to go

i probably wouldnt care either if I had a D700, but ive still got a d2x. ive definitely hit the limits of it. Been trying to buy a used D700/Subal but i guess people like them too much :)

Same here with my D80

But: "The announcement should be in Summer of 2011" that means housings by the end of 2011. That's a long time... but I think I will wait for this one and not to go for the D7000.

Hope it has focus points set further apart than the current top of the line Nikons. I really like the placement of the focus sensors on the D2x. Base, or lower than, 100 ISO would be helpful too. Otherwise, I will stick with my D2x for a little while longer. Video is not so much of a game changer for me. Smaller form factor would be cool though.

I dont really care about video either, but Im really disliking the high ISO performance of the D2x. And by saying high, im being really nice to Nikon :) I think the D2x is useless above 400. I regularly wish I could use 800, 1600 or even more. D700 would be nice, but Nikon took so long to get a replacement, im really hesitant to buy a new D700. Wish I had done that 3 years ago.

Wow Cor, that is too much credit for the D2X. I am not using mine above ISO 160. Don't get me wrong; it's a great camera. But I am only using it between 100-160 ISO. It will at leat take another year before a housing will be on the market.

I have decided to get a D700 housing and sell it as soon as the D800 housing is on the market. My Next years' projects need a high ISO camera.

Well, i dont want to be too demanding, but i do agree with you :) I dont think mine ever leaves 100. It's basically a 1 ISO setting camera :)

Do you still remember the moment that you got the D2x out of its box? Now even a D7000 consumer camera is better in every aspect (except for the viewfinder).

Ive actually considered the D7000. It seems like it could be a nice underwater camera. 10-17 and all :)

Understandable. I have a D700 including the 14-24 and 16-35. That camera is so good. My only regret is that I didn't get a housing for it earlier. I still remember your and Alex's comments when the D3 was introduced. Look at what Alex is using now :).

I am witching to full-frame. I am really impressed by the wide-angle performance of my new lenses on the D700. I am ready for the D800 with these lenses. Let's hope Nikon will introduce a fish eye zoom similar to what Canon has introduced. The D2x can stay as macro rig; and I am planning to do as little macro as possible the next few year.

I have a D7000 on order. I plan to use it in my office for photography and to shoot short videos for my website, patient education etc.

I'm looking forward to comparing it to my D700 with regard to noise; if it compares as some claim, I will probably go back to DX at least for diving.

I'm getting into a 2 camera, DX and FX frame of mind. Studio and pool and general topside I like FX. Diving and wildlife / birds (I like the telephoto reach of DX), unless it's low light then I prefer FX.

I think one of the real unsung benefits of Nikon is the ability to use lenses freely between FX and DX

If you wait a little cor my Subal D700 could be for sale.

Correct!

exactly.

I enjoy DX for macro and wildlife photography, and FX for wide angle and scenics.

If they would just make a kick-butt dedicated Black & White only dslr, I'd be in heaven with a perfect triangle.

What's the benefit of a Black& White only DSLR?

To me, better options for wrecks, better contrast control creativity, and an ability to shoot in a diiferent direction in the cold water zones. Topside too, it's simply a compelling option to me and challenges a diiferent viewpoint. But then again others wouldn't feel the same.

Any other thoughts on D7000 vs waiting somewhere between 9mths to a year for a D800 or D400? Is there anything else that they can throw into the next set of pro models that, as an underwater shooter, would make me drool and regret if i get d7000 now?

Figuring if D7000 has low-light performance anywhere close to D700, that has to be good enough for underwater? and then after that its just getting better video (up to 60fps instead of 24) performance and weatherproofing?

I'm only an enthusiast and use only on the occasional (2-4x year) dive trip and consider my upgrade cycle should longer than pros. But its been a long time (5-6 yrs?) with the original d70 and waiting for a d400 for past 2yrs has been painful (wanting to step up to the pro bodies, so also would consider d800).

I put little faith in these rumors. My friends in the industry are expecting a 16-18MP full frame camera by mid february 2011. Priced at around 3K. Given that the last rumor was on the money I'm inclined to believe them on this.

Keeping my fingers crossed ;-)

Announced. And then the usual 2-6 weeks before they hit the stores. I'm guessing they will be backordered for some time when they finally arrive. It has been a too common MO for Nikon in the past.

Cheers,

Espen.
