jenfu 0 Posted November 9, 2010 Hi Everyone, Ran into a small problem getting the caps off of my housing (caps that cover the strobe sync cables when the cables are not attached). The same caps that cover the connectors on my strobes are also stuck. I got one off but it took a ton of forceful turning. I can't get the others off. On the one I got off, it looks like there is a little corrosion on the treads so maybe a little moisture was on these threads. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can get the caps off without damaging the connectors? Thanks! -JenFu
gravity 0 Posted November 9, 2010 Is it threaded? Gently tapping for several minutes will usually loosen a threaded connection that becomes stuck.
JackConnick 76 Posted November 10, 2010 Try some warm vinegar and dip them into it. Jack

Will give it a try. Try some warm vinegar and dip them into it. Jack Thank you. I'll give it a go.
casbba 18 Posted November 12, 2010 This won't help you get them off, but once you do you could try a little petroleum jelly on the threads (not o ring) before doing them up. This stops salt water corrosion and therefore sticking.

ChrigelKarrer 52 Posted November 12, 2010 You may tra also Corrision-X, WD-40 or CRC on the stuck cap, but change the o-ring after you get it off. I personally would be careful with petroleum jelly, as it may reach somehow th o-ring and alter him. I use a thin film of the silicone greease supplied by the manufacturer on the treads. Another way to retard corrision is to seperate the metals by teflon pipe dope The best thing to avoid corrision and especially galvanic corrision is to seperate the metals by unscrewing them. If you unscrew the caps after every dive they wont stuck anymore. Chris
eskasi 1 Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) Removed mine after some difficulty. That will teach me to loosen the threads next time when storing! Edited December 27, 2010 by eskasi
Scubamoose 0 Posted December 28, 2010 Got mine loose after some tapping and useing a bit more force than "normally". Now I open and clean them after every 20 dives or so. No problems anymore. Cheers Karel
eyu 27 Posted December 28, 2010 I use crystal lube on the threads of my sync cords. This prevents the locking nut from freezing stuck and also allows the sync cord to screw in and out with ease in the housing. It leaves a coating behind, thus allowing the bulkhead cap nuts to turn easy. I figure if it is used in regulators as an inert lube, it will not hurt the sync cords.
