loftus 42 Posted November 14, 2010 So now I get to live my life vicariously through my daughter Kyra, a freshman at the University of Miami, Marine Sciences Program. Hardly there a couple of months and already recruited by Neil Hammerschlag to participate in a shark tagging program run through the R.J. Dunlap Marine Conservation Program. So yesterday was a great day, 2 Hammerheads, a Tiger, a baby Atlantic Bottlenose, and a Mako tagged.... yes a Mako near Tavernier Florida, how cool is that. Apparently the first Mako ever tagged with a satellite tag. These guys are doing great work, so if anyone feels the urge to donate, the R.J. Dunlap program does great work and needs all the help it can get. http://www.rjd.miami.edu/ Photographs below were taken by Christine Shepard

danielandrewclem 3 Posted November 16, 2010 I hope there will soon be an Atlantic version of the TOPP project, so people could see where various sat-tagged pelagics have been swimming. Here are some makos in the Pacific from the past five years: http://www.topp.org/species/mako_shark
