aussie 0 Posted November 20, 2010 I was playing around with the video feature on my 7D yesterday, when our resident napoleon wrasse Wally got a little too curious. Note to self, don't get camera so close to Wally when he's looking to play. Housing is ok, it was just a little tap, although there's now a big scratch on my 8" port that I'll have to buffer out (thank god it's not a glass port!). Ryan. tdpriest 115 Posted November 22, 2010 Looks to me like Wally didn't like the nasty competitor hiding in the dome port... ... did you have video lights on the wrasse? A lovely video clip (as long as your dome is now better)! Tim
aussie 0 Posted November 22, 2010 Polished the scratches out today, all good. No lights, just manual white balance in about 6m of water. Guessing it was his reflection that was the problem.

xariatay 1 Posted December 2, 2010 Looks to me like Wally didn't like the nasty competitor hiding in the dome port... ... did you have video lights on the wrasse? A lovely video clip (as long as your dome is now better)! Tim Nice video! Yup, think he ddin't like the handsome face he saw in the dome. I seldom see big fish in the places that I dive at, so always wary (worry) abt big fish... My cowardice does serve me well... Btw, for those who love Napoleon Wrasse, I have received this from Edward Dorson "November 30, 2010 Palau's Napoleon wrasse bill, SB No. 8-56, has been vetoed! Due to the spontaneous efforts of dedicated people worldwide and a wise president, a significant victory for ocean conservation was achieved yesterday in Palau. President Toribiong has VETOED Senate Bill No. 8-56, a bill that sought to have open seasons for the taking and selling of Napoleon wrasse and Bumphead parrotfish, along with extending the season for the taking and selling of grouper. See the attached veto letter from the president which gives his explanation. Please express your words of gratitude to President Toribiong regarding his veto of SB No. 8-56 and also help Palau in securing it. Although vetoed by the president, SB No. 8-56 can still become law by a 3/4 overriding vote in the Olbiil Era Kelulau (the OEK -- Palau's National Congress) within 30 days of its return. With this override possibility, please extend your continuing support for President Toribiong's veto by having your message of gratitude copied to the OEK's Senate and House of Delegates, as well as the civic associations listed below: Send to: President Toribiong, President of the Republic of Palau: rop.president@palaunet.com and Cc to: Mlib Tmetuchl, President of the Senate of the Eighth Olbiil Era Kelulau senate@palaunet.com Noah Idechong, Speaker of the House of Delegates oek-speaker@palaunet.com Members of the House of Delegates of the Eighth Olbiil Era Kelulau, House Committee on Maritime and Fisheries hod.clerk@ymail.com Palau Chamber of Commerce pcoc@palaunet.com Palau Conservation Society pcs@palaunet.com Belau Tourism Association bta@palaunet.com Palau Visitors Authority pva@visit-palau.com Palau Shark Sanctuary sharksanctuary@gmail.com "
hughmoore 0 Posted December 2, 2010 In 1992, while at Norman Reef near Cairns (I think thats what its called) one of these local Wrasse, decided that my orange gloves were food and attacked my hand, at one point he swallowed my whole hand up past my wrist, scared the crap out of me. Steve Douglas 16 Posted April 2, 2011 It's always capturing actual behaviors that is the most interesting. I had a Goliath Grouper in Thailand attack my hand as I attempted to pull a stray piece of rope away from the front of my port. Those teeth caused a lot of pain and couldn't shake hands with anyone for weeks. Kept filming though. Steve
