real video versus windows media?

Recommended Posts

I'm working with Premier 6.5 and I've got a couple of videos I'm ready to export for the web. I started with one using the Real codec, but it was really crappy. Too much information changes from frame to frame for the compression routine they're using. Any recommendations?

It's been some time since I've done this so I'm a little rusty.

You need to decide what data rates you are going to provide and match the screen sizes to those rates. I currently use 100K and 500K but those rates are higher than most use, I think. I also prefer larger screen sizes even if it means lower video quality at times.

One of the tips I can offer is to choose an unusually low frame rate. Underwater video seems to stand up well to that and I often use 10 or 15 fps.

I'm out of town for the holidays or I'd look up the actual real video settings I use. I've recently used Sorenson Squeeze to produce QT, RV, MP4 and WMV files at the same time. The first three are similar in quality and size. WMV is noticably better. Users will want, and need, a choice.
