Aquatica housing for Nikon D7000 information

Merry Xmas to all.

Jean how does the new port attachment clamp lever work? Is there a pin similar to the Aquatica AD90 which keeps the port locked in place??

No Mark, it's quite different, I unfortunately did not have the chance (actually forgot :) ) to take some shots of the mechanism in question before closing up for the holiday, I will put a priority on this the moment we are back in the office.

Hi Jean,

A question on the "hybrid" strobe connector equipped housing. I can see if there was one electronic connection that would be fine for a dual Ikelite setup since they use a one-into-two cord anyway, but how would the optical connection work? I looked on Aquatica's website and I don't see a one-into-two optical cord?

thanks,

John

I was told by the folks at Backscatter that two optical cords will fit into the single optical connector on the housing.

Thanks for the reply -- are you using dual optical bulkheads on your Aquatica for the Z240's?

thanks!

Hi JP,

I spoke to Jean before xmas regarding getting an Inon optical bulkhead which can handle two straight optical fibre cords and also having the Ikelite bulkhead for my current DS161 strobes. Having the best of both worlds so to speak.

That does sound like a good setup.

Yeah thats what I thought JP. Honestly I havnt used optical mainly because I have Ikelite strobes. But I am seriously looking into the Inon's z240's this year for travel and macro work as they are so compact and lite vs the Ikelites. I still prefer my Ikelites for my wide angle work here at home.

But it makes sense to have both options there.

That is correct Mark, I confirm the AD 7000 has a Hydrophone and moisture alarm included in the price.

Hi Jean is there much of a price difference if you wanted to have the both bulkhead styles (optical and say Ikelite) instead of one or the other???

Not sure if you mean Hybrid (-HYB) this version has an electrical connector and a optical one and is the same retail price (all standard catalogued version are), the Ikelite + Optical I will have to get back to you.

So the Hybrid version has one Nikonos bulkhead and one optical bulkhead. Is it a simple job to have an Ikelite bulkhead instead of the Nikonos?

Out of interest, are you on the Aquatica payroll? :)

I’ll take the liberty to answer this.

Just because an individual has interest in (and in this case, already ordered) one of our products does not make him an infiltrator, an undercover staffer or a remunerated for favor customer. For the record, let me make it BK-7 category clear that neither Aquatica nor myself will indulge in this type of reprehensible tactic to attract attention on its products. Would you be talking about me, I would understand as I am on the payroll just as you are for your manufacturer, but that does not give me the right to go into thread concerning your manufacturer’s and insinuate that people enthusiastic about their product are on the payroll. :)

Mark is enthusiastic about is upcoming acquisition and frankly, right here, in this forum is exactly the place for him to ask questions, discuss possibilities and exchange information. Alex, The fact that you would mistake Mark’s legitimate enthusiasm for a veiled collusive attempt by Aquatica to gather attention on its product really disappoints me.

Seconded here. Not sure why the accusatory comment towards Mark was necessary. It might have just been an attempt at humor, but sarcasm is difficult to discern if that's the case. It's patently obvious if a person read this entire thread that Mark is a current Aquatica owner and simply enthusiastic about the product. I have interacted with Mark in several different threads and he is just a passionate photographer/diver as am I. The Nauticam product is very nice too, but this thread is about Aquatica and not Nauticam.

Perhaps the gentleman got lost and meant to post here - http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=38794

cheers,

JP

Sense of humour really doesn't translate across cultures does it. No offense meant.....

Possibly. On a computer, veiled sarcasm and humour will appear to be very similar. As a representative of Nauticam, I would think going into a thread about a competitor's product and posting something derogatory in even the most good-natured way is not a good idea.

Cheers,

JP

Hi Alsky72,

Currently I am paid the following per related view of what I have posted:

Aquatica = 25 cents per view

Nikon = 5 cents per view

Tokina = 3 cents per view

Ikelite = a christmas card each year

Sigma = gift voucher for leg waxing

Pelican cases = I get a free 1510 for every 10,000 views of a palican related post

Unfortunately the truth is that I am not on any payroll or recieve any money or free products from any manufacturers. I work part time in a Dive shop for the love of it and full time night job to pay for my camera and dive gear and the occasional dive trip overseas. I have placed a pre-order for the Aquatica AD7000 to update my existing AD90 setup and both setups were ordered through Peter Mooney at Scubpixs, Cairns, Australia.

As someone who has pre-ordered I have posted questions which I would have like answered by Aquatica (Jean the Aquatica rep) and also be of interest of those people who might be considering a housing for the new Nikon D7000. I am biased in my posting as frankly I want to know about what I am getting when I recieve my Aquatica AD7000 and how it compares with other available housings. From the information recieved so far in this post it looks like a very well engineered housing which has some extra features which the Aquatica AD90 didnt have. It also looks like its priced very well against its nearest competitor which would be the Nauticam housing.

I am open to any offers of money or free gear. Alsky you can send me a free Nauticam housing and I will tell everyone how much I like it, especially as its free ;-). Seriously if you send me a Nauticam housing for the D7000 I would compare them both (Aquatica and Nauticam) and give you my honest opinion as I have no financial or benefitial gains as there might be with other comparisons or reviews.

Regards Mark

Hi Mark,

I'm glad you have a sense of humour similar to mine, I seem to have got myself in trouble here. I certainly like the sound of the Sigma leg waxing.

Are you working for Sundive in Byron Bay? I worked there about 10 years ago when Rodney was the owner, is he still around. I also worked for Byron Bay Dive Centre with Robbie, Matt and Perry. Byron is an extraordinary place, even though it was 10 years ago, it is still very dear to my heart. I hope to come back one day soon.

Hi Alex,

Its a small world.

Current been with Sundive for over 12 months now and had about 7 years at BBDC. Most of the old crew are still around. Sundive was bought by a young fella named Giac about 8 years ago and Rod is still in the area.

The BBDC has changed a little. Matt (who i went to school with) is now working in the mines in Western Australia. Uncle Jeff the mechanic retired. Perry and Rob bought the Dive centre building off Greg. Perry has 3 kids now also.

The Town of Byron Bay has change alot in 10 years. Price of real estate is rediculous. The amount of back packing hostel has increased by 4 times. But its still a beauitful place and offers some of the best diving on the east coast of Australia as you well know.

I think the diving is actually getting better since the Marine Santuary has even more restrictions imposed on recreational fishing over the pass couple of years. We are seeing alot of stuff coming back to the area which disappeared 15-20 years ago. Before Xmas I had 7 Queensland Grouper in one spot off the Cod Hole and huge schools of very large Jewfish on the sand pass the Cray cave with 10kg Snapper under the boats in the Nursery which simply love it when the snorkelers are Sea Sick ;-). I had a dive before xmas in hugo's trench and was spotting Nudi's for a photographer. I told him that we will go really slow and we can easierly find several different species. After an hour I think I spotted well over 15 different species and a couple I havnt seen before. He said that he's done alot of diving around the world but never seen some many and so many different nudi's in one small area.

But you know what its like out there ;-)

Surely you can find some kind of excuse to try out your Nauticams at Byron Bay ;-)

Cheers Mark

Alex here is a link to a couple of my amature videos from my D90.

Video edited by Jy the skipper of some of my video's and stills down around the Cod hole earlier this year with the huge school of baitfish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KbgOkhbYkU...player_embedded

Its a tease I know.

Oh my, Matt is working in the mines! He was the one who I did my DM with, he was quite the slave driver!. Perry, 3 kids, my god. Say hello to them from me. I was Alex who was working for the English Language School and getting them loads of customers. Tim was there shooting videos for Open Water divers too.

How I wish I'd bought a property when I was there 10 years ago.

Right, Byron is firmly back on the list of places in the next 3 years, I'll catch up with you soon.

Alex

On a side note, I was cruising Aquatica's website and noticed that Keri Wilk has posted up some images of this housing and images he took with this set-up. I did not know he was running this set-up. Come to the Canon side Keri...

ps I also am not on the Aquatica payroll and purchase my housings. :)

Cheers

Todd
