graffa 0 Posted December 25, 2010 This is one of my favorites from 2010 in that it was a lot of fun planning and getting it executed. You would be surprised at how many people asked how come the lights were on?
rwe 4 Posted December 25, 2010 While my photos are much less impressive than the great photos from you professionals, I liked this shot even though the quality/resolution were very poor. The RAW file was very cyan so I initially converted to B&W but later pulled out some color with Elements 6.0.
saudio 6 Posted December 25, 2010 (edited) Such a hard choice, but I think my favorite was this school of hunting Goldsaddled Goatfish in various color phases. I followed them around the reef for several minutes and they finally followed some prey right past me in a rush. wyzeguy 0 Posted December 26, 2010 (edited) Definitely not the best technically, but this shot of a Giant Pacific Octopus (GPO) on eggs was the most memorable diving experience of the year for me. Note the black dots in each egg -- those are baby GPO eyes Edited December 26, 2010 by wyzeguy
Bent C 18 Posted December 26, 2010 Hard choice to do. I guess this one is one I like a lot, have been waiting to do it for several years without getting it done. I really like when pictures come out at least somewhat how they were planned, and even better if that planning has been done a long time before the picture actually is taken. gecko1 12 Posted December 27, 2010 Hasn't been the best year for me for diving or picture taking. Still, I kind of like this one. Taken while decompressing from a deep dive off of Point Lobos in Central California. I got cold during the deco so I took the port cover off and started shooting away at the (rather numerous) jellies. Warmed me right up. Clinton

aussie 0 Posted December 28, 2010 Some great stuff in there! Damo, I love your shot mate. I did one overseas trip (to Bali) in 2010, however, after a hard drive failure and a very extended delay on it being returned to me after a recovery, I'm still waiting on them. So all my underwater pics are from around Aus this year (not that that's a bad thing). My 2 favorites, of quite common subjects. #1 is from the GBR off Cairns, #2 is from Julian Rocks, Byron Bay. ce4jesus 1 Posted December 29, 2010 After living in the same house for 17 years my wife and I took the plunge and bought a new house last December...needless to say the money pit has absorbed most of our time and resources. We did manage a family vacation with friends so we chose the side of Mexico with nice beaches over Cozumel. Great choice for topside activities, not so great for diving. After 12 dives, I was on my ascent when I saw this ray swimming. I swam to where I placed myself directly in his path. He saw me and promptly parked in the sand with his butt to me :-< I remained still for at least a minute hoping to get a take off shot and he didn't disappoint me. He turned around and swam over my shoulder!
Tom_Kline 143 Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) Although I have several candidate shots for favorite (some are on my Xmas card, see Seasons Greeting thread), I am instead submitting a “best of” shot. This is my best science shot for 2010. It was taken in September using a pole-cam rig. It shows very small Pacific herring (4 to 5 cm long) from the 2010 cohort (they were eggs back in early spring) infested with sea lice (parasitic copepods). There are several herring in the photo with sea lice; the blow-up (pixel peeping for science!) is one with two that are clearly adult stage since they have eggs. I used this shot (whole as well as blow-up) as well as a few others (also paired with blow-ups) in a research proposal submitted just before leaving for the holidays. DiverPam 13 Posted December 30, 2010 Awesome set of pictures - as alawys. Here is my fav for the year - hard to choose just one though. I took this in Palau while diving German Channel in June. This was my first manta sighting ever! Happy New Year - DiverPam
johnnyrm 0 Posted December 30, 2010 I am fond of this image of a Humpback female I took on the Silver bank in Feb 2010. It passed under our tender and interacted with us for over an hour until the escort got tired of our competition for her attention. This was shot with a 10.5mm fish-eye lens at a distance of about 1 foot. An unbelievable experience I was so lucky to have had.

wizbowes 0 Posted January 10, 2011 Didn't get to go diving in 2010. The joys of a young family! The best I managed was 45 minutes snorkeling in Marsa Alam. Spent almost the whole time in a school of Mackerel. Mackerel by wizbowes, on Flickr
