EO connector to Nikonos Adaptor

Recommended Posts

I have an old Aquatica F3 housing with EO connector bulkhead. I wonder if there is such a sync cord that has EO connector (male) on one end and a Nikonos connector on the other so that I can connect an SB 104 to the housing. Or is there any old style strobe that uses EO connectors as sync cords? Thank you.

I suspect that you have two options. EO connectors are still available (try googling them) but not to Nikonos strobes - but a custom lead can almost certainly be made up by someone like www.aquaphot.com in the UK or another specialist repairer. Alternatively, I would suggest getting a Nikonos bulkhead fitted to the Aquatica housing - most likely Aquatica will be able to advise on this, but if F3 housing bulkheads are unavailable now, it should be possible to have a new threaded hole machined in the housing so that a Nikonos bulkhead can be fitted and so that 'standard' leads can be used - probably the cheaper option is for a new bulkhead one way or the other.

The F3 is provided with two holes on the top of the housing, one is obliviously set up with a EO, the other is most likely just plugged, we still use the same hole size as we did for the F3, and altought we no longer have a nikonos connector with a PC end, it should be easy for you to either cut the hot shoe and splice the PC ending to it or if you have the hotshoe adapter that went over the F3 rewing crank, then just slide the shoe in this, I believe it is called an AS-4, adapter

The Aquatica bulkhead you would want is the 18812 or if you want dual, the the 18813, please note that TTL is not possible with the F3, it has a very peculiar TTL language, one that was only compatible with a specific flash (the SB-16 I believe) it was the only Nikon Camera issued with this TTL protocol, all subsequent Nikon (including the venerable Nikonos) had the same TTL language until digital came in.
