Using Inon Z240 with Sea&Sea RDX-550

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine is upgrading to a Sea&Sea RDX550 housing with Inon Z240 strobes.

He asked me which fibre optic cable he would need. I use Ikelite strobes so don't have any idea.

The Sea&Sea Fibre Optic cable (L Type) looks like its only able to be used with Sea&Sea Strobes.

The Inon Fibre Optic Cables have a bare end which looks like it needs some sort of adapter for it to plug into the Sea&Sea housing.

Is there anybody out there who can help??

I have an RDX 450 housing with Inon Z240 strobes.

I bought two Sea & Sea fibre optic cables and two Inon L-connector kits. You then cut one of the S&S ends off of each cable and fit the Inon connector in its place.

I got all the bits and pieces from Yuzo at UWdigitalcamera.com. He is very helpful with making sure you get the correct bits and pieces. The links on what I bought are below.

Hope this helps.

Any S&S optical cable plus an Inon plug/bushing ($3 from Reef) and a very sharp razor blade to cut the one end from the S&S cable.

This is the cable he requires - all done with no need for any modifications.

Ryan is right, I meant any Inon cable plus the bushing. The bushing is for the S&S end.

Too deep too long.

My RDX-550 came with FO cable bushings inserted into the housing already. All I needed were the FO cables. I bought mine from Yuzo.

So where do I buy this pre-made cable to go from S&S housing to Inon Strobe, and what is the part number for it? Thank you! <:Steve:>

I'm a little confused about the part number.

Bill, your link to reef is for part number 26214 which I can't find on the nauticam website

There is an optical fibre cable on reef for Nauticam to Inon - part number 26211 which looks like the one Peter posted previously

However on Backscatter, the Nauticam to Inon cable (part 26211) looks different in the photo to the one on reef while the Nauticam to S&S cable (part 26212) looks like the one on reef.

Is there a photo of what part 26214 looks like??

You can get it from reef. I would be careful to not buy the nauticam to S&S cable which I believe is for the nauticam housing to S&S strobes. The strobe and housing end of the S&S is the same but the Nauticam end will not fit on the Inon strobes, it looks the same but the diameter of the fitting is smaller. Why nauticam would make a cable to fit from a S&S housing to an Inon strobe is beyond me. The ones I use are Inon cables with a bare end and the bushing in the S&S housing.

Confused, I am

Hi Sylar,

I wouldn't be buying any fibre cables that have a Nauticam connector. You are wanting S&S to Inon. I'd give Peter a call. He's just up the road from you, and the picture of the cable he posted is the same as I have.

Cheers

Colin

Just under the price it has "Model: nau.26214"

I am assuming this is the manufacturers part number.

Hi All,

We make several FO cables, so it can be a little confusing, but pmooney's picture and bvanant's link to the part on Reef's site both show the correct part. Reef calls it the "Nauticam Sea & Sea -> Inon Fiber Optic Cable" - meaning that it is made by Nauticam but it is a "Sea & Sea -> Inon Fiber Optic Cable", meaning it has a Sea&Sea style plug connector on one end, and the Inon screw-cap on the other end.

So, yes, this is the right cable for the poster's query:

Nauticam p/n 26214: Sea&Sea to Inon Fiber Optic Cable

You should be able to get it from any Nauticam dealer, including pmooney there in Oz.

Cheers,

Cp

If you haven't found one yet, this is the cable you need:
