Fireworm outbreak

Recommended Posts

Since months ago i'm seeing huge amount of fireworms anytime i dive in the south coast of Dominican Republic .

They are everywhere and i want to find what is the cause of this "explosion" in their population , because for sure must present a negative impact on the reefs .

Last year i dove in Utila , Cozumel and Cuba and didn't see an abnormal amount of fireworms, as what i'm seeing here .

Don't know which are their predators ,but i guess that the absence of them can be a possible cause .

Anyone have seen this in other places of the Caribbean or have any idea what is happening ?

As a member of the local chapter of Reef Check , i'm thinking that maybe an option to control the situation , will be to organize some dives to collect them but no sure if this will help.

I will appreciate any comment

Regards
