Mobile app to access Wetpixel forum

Recommended Posts

Hi Wetpixel team,

I was wondering if you've considered making Wetpixel forum compatible with one of the mobile applications, which would allow easy access from our beloved mobile phones (iPhones, Androïde phones...)?

For example, Tapatalk (http://www.tapatalk.com/) looks like a nice solution.

It would not only benefit big travellers, but any member who enjoys browsing when time permits but computers are far.

What do you think?

cheers

Nicolas

I think this would be cool. Some questions:

1) Is there a standard forum app that the WetPixel owners would just have to setup with that app, or is custom app development required

2) What is the cost for a pre-made app (license) or to custom development

I'd imagine it's just the cost that is an issue. The two main operating systems would be Android and iPhone. Android is obviously cheaper to develop for.

I'll have a look at tapatalk. Unfortunately right now they're down due to the Amazon EC2 outage.

Website up again!

So the application exists already, but I believe indeed that some development might be needed on the Forum side, to comply with the App requirements.

I've used it quite a bit to talk on YorkshireDivers forum, and it's really, really cool.

If our beloved Wetpixel could become compatible one day... well, maybe be I'd have no more social life :)

Tapatalk would be awesome.

I use it for a few other forum like The Deco Stop, Rebreather World, etc... works a treat for consuming/posting to forums whilst travelling to/from work.

Unfortunately this wont be happening anytime soon. Tapatalk does not have a version for this forum software. We have plans to update it, but I cant say when.

There's no change. The current version of the forum software is not compatible with tapatalk. And there is no timeframe for updating the software. If the software gets updated, im sure everyone will know ;)

Hi,

I'm not asking tapatalk nor a dedicated smartphone app... but at least a mobile theme! :rose:

Browsing the forums on a phone it's really a bad experience in 2012. I saw that Invision IP.Board has a mobile theme. Is there any chance to update the board version?

I remember the board update was the reason to not add another subforum for mirrorless camera.

Any news on this?

Thank you in advance

There is a Lofi Version .. which I think is available to everyone http://wetpixel.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/

There is also the Lite theme available to Team Wetpixel.

There used to be the Tree view .. which I think is Linear+ now in the drop down options .. that used to make things easier on a phone.

Anyway there are options, and there maybe more. All have been here for quite a while I believe.

Also does this work? http://www.invisionpower.com/suite/mobile.php

The forums suggest an android app has been in the works for 2 years. Nothing yet.

But I did find this http://community.invisionpower.com/files/f...-mobile-device/

I have no idea if either of those last things work with Wetpixel.

Hi Giles,

The lowfi version could be clearer on the phone but here the key point it's that a user should see a plain version through his pc/tablet and a lofi version while on the phone.

When I receive a mail alert there is no link on a lofi version but only something like: http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showt...view=getnewpost

So it means that you have to load all the page with tons of advertising, images.. and then maybe be able to reach the lofi link at the page bottom.

I'm not a Team Wetpixel member, what does it means? I tried the linear+ version but i did not notice anything different on my iphone and sony ericsson.

Maybe. It depends on the board version you have. It does exactly what I wrote at the beginning.

Having an Android/Iphone app it's another step. Not necessary at all if the board is capable to recognize a mobile client from http headers and switch the session to a "one column mobile theme". All the current CMS have this features as default.

Anyway I see that the ip.board version you have it's quite old so the real problem it's the update. Also the web design is a little bit old fashioned :D

It's a shame that a so large community is left with a product not on top of the situation.

Bye

Hi,

We are planning an update to Wetpixel soon.

When this takes place, we will try to incorporate the feature requests above.

In point of fact, the new site is written, but moving the data from the existing forums to a new design is not so simple! Please continue to bear with us.

Team Wetpixel is a paid subscription-please see here:

Many thanks

Adam

The new forum skin has a good mobile skin. Let me know what you think, but don't get too used to it because the new redesign is underway. There is no telling how long we'll have this. ;)

Indeed the new look & feel of Wetpixel forums looks much much better on iOS mobile devices, kudos Wetpixel!

Since we're approaching Christmas, here's part of my Christmas list: an app that would enable downloading Wetpixel forum threads, and reading them offline.

Indeed, there are some very interesting discussions in large forum threads (10+ pages), and it would be great to take advantage of travel time to read those, and get up to speed on those passionating discussions!!!

I got the IPB mobile app when you transferred the forum, but only just got it to work, it looks great, why would you need tapatalk if you have the IPB mobile app?

Nothing wrong with options. Some people read others forums than just wetpixel (who would have thought) and not all of them run IPB.
