I-Torch Video

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anybody has used this light. The I-torch Video

http://www.itorch.ca/i-torch-vido.html

saw it at the store today and it looked like a really smooth and even lighting system at a decent price >300... i have a FlipHD cam with an ikelite housing and am looking for a light in this price range.

just wondering if anyone has experience with this light or something similiar.

thanks!

Check out the Light & Motion Sola Lights range of lights.

Many folks have been using the Photo 500 / 600 / Video 1200 as video lights with their D SLR systems .

The i-torch Video has been recently updated to the Pro3 model. It's now 650 lumins, with a much whiter, more even light. It has a completely different array. It also has red light like the Sola! Still uses 4 AA's and a lot of people like that idea who are traveling and may not have the ability to plug a light in. My only dislike is that there is a fairly hard edge fall-off, but it's still very well made.

one question i do have about the I-Torch... is what parts would i need to mount it to the hand grip of an ikelite housing? this is the handle i have http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/vcompact_acc.html (under compact video handle)

I would replace the flex arm with a ball and joint handle and whatever arm(s) you like, maybe a 4 + 6". The 4 needs to have a YS mount, like the SH-04 on my site. Sorry, I can't link out here but you'll see what I mean. You can do the same arrangement with the Ike pro V8 by substituting a ball mount on the light. A lot of people like that better.

4xAA vs 8xC is a huge difference in weight.

I'm about to make your day. I have a pair of I-torch video lights and I'm in the process of transferring them to my Ikelite housing that houses my Canon HF21. Here is a pic of my current rig (Lumix ZS3/i-Torch video lights) and a vid taken with it.

For my Ikelite housing and handle there is a compatability problem and I can spare you some grief based on some countless hours of research. The i-Torch video lights have a YS (sea and sea) style mount and the Ikelite arm has an exposed bolt. Ikelite has its V8 solution,, but they don't have locline arms that have a YS mount if you want to go with the i-Torch product. I came across a business in the UK that is custom making a a pair of locline arms for me for a reasonable price. Jaime from ManfishPhoto is making them. He has a presence on Ebay under the DiverTribe store. The base is different from mine which is why he is making a custom fit for me. The link below is for the arms and below that is my new ikelite housing

Getting back to the I-Torch video lights. I like them. They give off a nice bright white light with no hot spot. As Jack pointed out above, they do have a hard edge drop-off. But this can be dealt with by adding a diffuser. Another point....they are negatively buoyant! I will be adding some sort of DIY floatation to get the rig neutral.
