Nikon D7000, Aquatica AD7000

Recommended Posts

Hi All.

Here are a few shots taken this week with my Nikon D7000 and Aquatica AD7000 housing. Tokina 10-17mm was used @ 10mm as I havnt got the zoom gear for the lens yet. Ikelite Ds161 strobes were also used.

I have bought a new laptop and havnt had the chance to calibrate the laptops monitor or get the HMDI cable to DVI required for my main monitor. This means I havnt edited any of the photos provided yet and they are just resized shots straight from the camera.

I had the chance this week to do several dives at my local dive site of Julian Rocks, Byron Bay and also had the Chance to dive Fish Rock, South West Rocks which in my opinion has some of the best diving in Australia.

Nice lighting in tricky conditions on both sets of pics. Did you use your strobes in ttl or manual?

Hi Jerry.

I shot in manual. Unfortunately latey we have an average vis of 10-15m....I would like to try the sunbursts out when it gets really clear.

Cheers Mark

Hey Mark, great shots.

I really like the attention to the framing in the batfish shot.

Fantastic photos. I love the mantas and the woebeggong shark. I have a friend who just bought the same camera/housing combo.

Here is my first effort at using the video on the D7000. I just turn the thing onto video mode and record.....

Great sequence.

Be great to see how you go when you get on top of the video settings.

What a beautiful sequence. Looks like the manta got VERY close at the end.

I was shooting at 10mm which means I was very close. This young female played with me for over 40mins until I had to come up. She would come right up and hover and fake away and come back for more.

Cheers Mark

Mark,

Did you have your DS-161's video lights running for either of those videos?

Nice shots and movies!

Hi John.

I didnt have the video lights of the Ikelites DS161 turn on. I dont think much of the light output of the DS161, might be good for macro as there isnt enough grunt.

I like the look of the Sola1200 as I have seen them in action.

Regards Mark

That's what I suspected after looking at the specs on them. I have DS-125's right now and am thinking of getting them upgraded, but it's quite a lot more money for upgrading to DS-161 ($450) as opposed to DS-160 ($300) if they are not very effective.

BTW, I notice Ike just came out with their Fiber Optic adapter for DS strobes:

http://ikelite.com/web_two/fiber-optic.html

It doesn't do TTL. I would probably still prefer to use regular sync cables for that feature -- it is really nice for macro stuff.

thanks,

John

John I would try out a pair of Ds160's and compare them with your Ds125's. I see the only difference is when shoot at full dump which now days I am not doing. Even for the big stuff I have been turning the power down on the Ds161's which might be on par or less than the power of the Ds125's at full power.

Hi Mark.

I have some magic filters and very keen to use it also. Unfortunately the water colour hasnt been the best lately. Hopefully if we get clear water and there are leopards and manras about in shallow water I would love to try the setup with the magic filters and no stobes for both stills and video. I am even thinking about putting the camera on high continous.

Regards Mark
