Alex_Mustard 0 Posted May 11, 2011 I am still in Iceland, but enjoyed the fact that I was able to get a press story out to the papers back home about the classic dive in Silfra (and some of the other much less dived freshwater canyons) that are fractures in the rift between the N.American and Eurasian plates. Been in several of our national papers. Of technical interest, perhaps, the first two images in the Mail link are taken with the Nikon 16-36mm rectilinear lens on FX, rather than a fisheye - I have been using that lens increasingly more of the time as I am so pleased with how it is performing behind the Zen 230 dome. Alex_Mustard 0 Posted May 12, 2011 That's cool, Anthony. Iceland is a bit of a trek from Melbourne, though. I agree, Eric. I think that the press agency route is an important output for underwater photographers now. I was actually quite late to the party on this one - and I have no idea how long this phenomenon will continue. Plus it is always a bit of a gamble, as financial returns depend on how much momentum the story generates. This one is doing really well on that front so far, but the last one I did at the start of the year on the Kittiwake generated little more wonga than a standard dive magazine article (even though it did get me on Irish TV). And the text is often not the high-brow message you were after! This is the first time I have had one appear while I have still been on the trip, which is cool. And I have to admit that it is very fortunate that it is a British thing - as I do like the fact that my friends all see the pictures when they are reading the papers! Plus Solent's office is just down the road in Southampton - so I can knock on the door if they don't pay! Alex Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

CNN was reporting videos they hosted of the Kittiwake to be the most watched video online, it was quite big in the news world from what I gathered. I think I saw your piece on one of the top shared lists for the Iceland story too. Been paying attention to that since a Lionfish story from Cayman did the same thing. Make sure you give it a go- if you havent done so already- lots of photo opportunities- very interesting fish species-very interesting textures - and odours ;-) Ps.
