segal3 0 Posted July 11, 2011 Hi everyone! Just two weeks ago we returned from the Wetpixel Alaska Expedition 2011, led by Jason Bradley. We had great weather and truly cooperative wildlife, topside and underwater. Jason and I have written about the trip in a front page post that includes some really excellent imagery from the participants: Wetpixel Alaska Expedition 2011 Trip Report. What do you say - willing to join us on our next cold water adventure?

Elainew 1 Posted July 13, 2011 Great report and pics, Matt. Nice to see cold water adventures. PS - did you get any manatee images from that murky morning when we met at Crystal River in March? :-)

segal3 0 Posted July 17, 2011 Thanks, everyone. I'm looking forward to seeing images from Berkley's trip, as well! PS - did you get any manatee images from that murky morning when we met at Crystal River in March? :-) That water was pretty murky, huh. The nice thing about having almost no visibility is not worrying about people or their fins showing up in the background! I did get a few captures, but never did see any manatees in the clear springs later that week. I'm hoping to head back in the winter when it's a bit colder. Did you have any success? StephenFrink 9 Posted July 23, 2011 Matt - We had the pleasure of reading your report on our iPhones and iPads when we got back to cell phone range on the Swell recently. Lovely report, and congratulations on a collectively very productive shoot. The crew greatly enjoyed your group. I particularly liked your steller self-portrait, and tried the same myself as one was chomping on my head. We did a lot more topside than UW, by intention. http://stephenfrink.blogspot.com/2011/07/a...ilus-swell.html
benedika 110 Posted July 26, 2011 Wow, thats amazing these orange worms were still there! I´ve been on aboard the swell end of May. And we saw these worms too.

No success on the photo front but it was still fantastic being up close and personal, especially when there were three lined up beside me.
Steve Douglas 16 Posted July 30, 2011 Really enjoyed your report. I was there a few years ago on another ship but didn't quite get the fantastic action that you did. On the trip before ours, a stellar took a good bite out of the divemaster's head who then had to go to the hospital for stitches . Then on our trip a stellar ripped to shreds the hood of one of the other divers who was unhurt but the dive was aborted after only 10 minutes. They may be playing but they can be hazardous to your health. Unfortunately, my DUI zipper blew on the second day of diving but I finished the dive, albeit a bit cold, and came up looking like the Michelan man. Glad they had an extra drysuit on board that fit me so the rest of the trip went fine. Still didn't have the footage you got though. Again, an excellent dive report Steve
gecko1 12 Posted August 1, 2011 Will post my pics from Berkley's trip soon. Was an absolutely great trip and there were loads of wonderful images from the other folks too. I think Berkley was going to post a collection of some of them on the Backscatter site at some point. Clinton
