I have been busy taking wrecks photos here in the St.Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. Learning more every time.

I use LR for my processing and have been playing with the photos a bit changing the temperature/tint.

I would be interested in getting your opinion on what photo you like.

The picture was taken on the Wolfe Islander II sunk in Kingston as an aritifical reef.

Take using ambient light only. Aquatica T2i/tokina 11/16mm

Exp - 1/30

F/2.8

ISO 800

focal length 11mm

Thanks in advance.

Andy

definitely the first one with the bw conversion, seems more detailed and bw suits the scene much better, second one is ok, third one is too green

I would say the pure B&W version, but only because I find that a B&W picture adds more "old times" atmosphere to wreck photos - especially photos taken using natural light only.

Picture #2 and #3 do have some nice qualities though. If you are shooting RAW you might try manipulating how the color channels are blended together, I find that it sometimes reduces the burnout that will occur when using natural lighting only. It might also bring out some of the more subtle details hiding in the shadows.

I must say that I'm tempted to make Canada and the Great Lakes my next holiday destination :-) I do love a good old wreck with lots of details.

I am tempted to go for the third one. The B&W doesn't clearly show that it is a wreck. How would you be able to see that you took it while diving?

Nice shots... I like the b&w too, but also know that the green tint isn't too far off the real deal there.

This shot reminds me of a streetscape... maybe a slum in Singapore... balconies, smog...

Where can you find slums in Singapore ? Is there a secret place :) ?

I like the b&w as well, more detail and the green or blueish version as not as pleasing to my eye

1st shot is probably the best, except for the fact that I couldn't tell it was underwater. #2 is second best.

I appreciate the comments.

I also agree it is tough to tell if the picture is underwater.

Unfortunately, I didnt have a diver subject to put into the shot. Alot of my dives tend to be solo.

Hopefully, I will get another chance on the wreck and put a diver in the shot.

The tinted version looks sharper to me: how did you do the monochrome conversion? I would normally have thought that the monochrome would be best, but it doesn't look that way to me here...

Hello Tim,

I did the B&W conversion by selecting it in Lightroom.

I also did a little bit of tweeking with the contrast.

I also agree the tinted version seems to bring out a bit more detail.

I am very new to this and using Lightroom. I could probably make it look even better in BW with some more work.

I think the second one gives the idea that you are underwater, the first looks best but seems a picture taken on land

Third one seems too saturated
