Hi there,

i cannot seem to find a definite answer, does anyone has the mentioned setup 5d2, 17-40, ikelite 8" dome with 5510.24 ? do you need a dipotre, are you happy with / without dioptre? if you could also point to a web gallery or some pictures with the mentioned setup i would be more than happy.

many thanks,

I can't answer definitively, but the advice I was given by someone on the phone at Reef Photo (Brian I think) was that "Ike's port recommendations are somewhat 'liberal' so if they say you 'may' want a diopter, and you're serious about photography, you probably will want it." (paraphrased, not direct quote) If you're shooting a 5d2 I'd say that puts you in the serious photog category... :)

Can you do a pool test? Hang a sheet with a checkerboard pattern or something similar down the side wall of the pool, weights at the bottom edge, and take test shots from different distances (start maybe 6' away at the wide end) and at different f-stops and zoom levels. Then compare corner sharpness in the shots later (should be obvious during the test if you lose the ability to focus in the center as you move closer).

I thought diopters were always going to be a trade-off between corner sharpness and vignetting at the wider end, and a dome crash at the longer end. ;)
