Diving Italy?

Recommended Posts

One place in the world I have always wanted to go to is Italy. I love historical sites and Pompeii has been on my bucket list for many years. Of course, I know it is a big country with a diversity of areas and even cultures. Since Pompei and Rome are more to the South, I was wondering what the diving might be like and if anyone had any recommendations.

The best places in Italy for diving are on the islands, especially Sardinia (where i and my dive operation is).

Good places are also Tor Paterno near Rome and all of the small islands on the western Mediterranean.

Diving in the Adriatic Sea is not very good, the "Isole Tremiti" in front of Bari have some nice dives.

Viz ranges usually between 60-80 ft, temp in summer time is between 70° and 80° depending on the depth of the termocline.

There are not so much fishes except in the marine parks but nice ambients and a lot of macro stuff.

Check my pictures and videos to get a idea on: www.sardiniadivers.com and feel free to ask for more.Chris

Hey Steve,

i just stumbled over this film from diving in Naples:

Somewhere more south is a place where you can dive in ancient temples and see mosaik floors, but unfortunately i can't remeber the name of the place.

Hi Steve,

if you are in Pompei, don't miss the best diving there round: "Il Banco di Santa Croce" is just few km from Pompei, you can be based in Castellammare di Stabia, there is an hotel just on the docks with a dive shop included, and the dive site is 3 minutes away by fast boat.

You can also dive Capri and Punta Campanella from the same place.

This is my Flickr with pics taken in this place: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pietrocremone...57626888719294/ and here a nice video: http://www.bikinidiving.com/ancora-lincanto-del-banco

This is the website of the dive shop: http://www.bikinidiving.com
