However, many countries have failed to act. September 15-16 the UN general assembly will hold a open workshop to review the actions taken by States to protect deep-sea ecosystems and sustainably manage deep-sea fisheries. Avaaz is aiming to collect half a million signatures on a petition to spur greater action to protect the deep seas. They have just passed the 300,000 mark with 36 hours to go.
