Diving Zanzibar in october

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm off to Zanzibar for a couple of weeks in october, staying solely in the north of the island. I've decided on East African Divers to go with but am not sure on which sites to go to. I think I'll be looking at 10 dives and the additional charges to sites are for Mnemba, Tumbatu, & Leven Bank. I think an extra $275 for a 2 dive trip to Pemba is a bit rich (to say the least!) so will be giving this a miss, but are the other 3 worth it?

Mnemba & Leven sound ok but I can't find anything on Tumbatu.

TIA!

I dove Pemba, just North of Zanzibar several years ago but I dove it in July as an adjunct to a Kenyan safari. I was told that the best time for either Zanzibar or Pemba was in Jan-March for the big critters.

My info is exactly a dog year ago so things may have changed. I remember my Mnemba dives best as I was staying on the island of Mnemba. They were nice and pretty good with marine life, especially green turtles.

My notes for Leven including tuna, whaleshark and sailfish, but under the category of saw it but didn't get a shot. I do have it noted the currents were strong on the pinnacle. There are quite a few morays around as well.

We did sail round to Tumbatu but my notes on the dive were a reef wall dive with a turtle cleaning station and various critters like scorpionfish, ribbon eel and frogfish. I don't have the site name as we had our own boat and followed a local diver's advice.

Hope this helps.
