The site has gone nuts, can anyone get on reduser to see what expected shipping is? I don't really fancy ordering and then having to wait 6 months to get the camera.

Opps I guess none of my posts from Red Studio came through? Darn Verizon 4G! Sorry I didn't check... had to rush for dinner! :)

Anyhow, 4k at 30fps, 3k 48fps, 1080p at 60fps, 1k at 120fps all with window crop from 5K (12fps) S35...meaning each will be considerably narrower FOV.

The Ti mount is going to be awesome but a few Epic people are having trouble with reliability. Like R1, I think it's going to be beta firmware on production units. That's the price of getting into the party of cheaper cinematic cameras.

Still very excited.

Jon if you ordered immediately, they start deliveries in a few days but no idea what the schedule is like. I know the 3 guys next to me ordered once 2 each, so I think the demand will be strong. First come first served! :)

Oh yes HDRX at up to 25fps in 3k only. Looks pretty amazing. I think it's Epic lightweight division!

LOL when RED said they were bringing a Bazooka to a knife fight for once they really were not exaggerating! Makes the Canon announcement look rather lame...

I've just ordered mine.

Delivery date.......

UNKNOWN

RED Europe said they'd taken 150 orders this morning so there will be some back ordering.

Pay 10% deposit now then the balance 10 days before shipment which wasn't so bad IMO.

Now how do I enhance my Advent Calender to countdown to my Scarlet X delivery?! :)

Nice one ... Hope you have enough blue chip work lined up for this baby? Otherwise that's just one expensive paperweight/toy!!! :)

Oh can I borrow it ...

LOl ... And a bloody waste of money it was too!!! The starter kit for Scarlet without lenses is meant be around £9000 so a tad more than the Ex1 and then you will have to buy Zoe one so that's double bubble... I've given up keeping up with the Joneses even of I had the money to waste ... Again!!! :)

You planning to put it in a Gates housing Simon? Anyone know when that's out and if it's supposed to fit both Epic and Scarlet?

Jon, I've seen 2 Red (Red 1 MX and Epic M) shoots go awry because of firmware/hardware issues (and heard of a few more) so I will not be a Scarlet virgin. They had people taking orders right at the studio but I had dinner plans. :)

Also, if you read Howard Hall's Lembeh report, his Red One actually melted, I suppose as heat built up in the housing during those super-long Lembeh dives. I've no idea if the more recent Reds run cooler, or whether housing design can somehow cater for it, but it's worth bearing in mind.

Not sure if my camera will ever actually make it underwater Nick. I've got lots of ongoing and future topside shooting to do which will make it a pretty busy camera even if it never gets wet. I'd absolutely love to get a Gates for it if the housing works out to be financially viable for me, but based on the cost of the RED ONE housing it may not be. Keeping my fingers crossed though! :)

Cheers, Simon

Does any one know if the dimensions match those of the epic. They sure look similar.

Hope that it fits into the gates epic housing.

Mark, it looked and felt a tad narrower and shorter but weighed the same (HEAVY!) so it may be just my tired eyes. I didn't really play much with it since I had to run for dinner.

16 bit - 4k @ 30 fps @ 440 Mb/s for $20 000 is quite impressive add to that the Canon 8-15mm and I think it will be a winning underwater rig with some help from Gates ???

Just remember that the original Red One was also supposed to have a relatively brief waiting period. Mark Thorpe was one of the first 100 to receive one, (he had it sent to me to hold on to for a few months) and he waited for quite a bit longer than those who ordered had been told. I wouldn't expect delivery very soon. I can only imagine what the housing will cost since, with monitor, the Gates housing for the EX1 is about $20,000. You guys are too rich for my blood. Wish it weren't so.

Steve

If it doesn't overheat. :) Imean if the 7D and 5D2 overheat, what chance does the Scarlet have of being cooler?

My personal preference is to get a custom housing so I can fit a Ki Pro Mini or Atomos Samurai in there. Then one can do everything in Pro Res proxy then convert from R3D later. R3D requires Red Rocket to transcode otherwise it's a looooonnnnnggggggg process even on 12 core computers!

The Pics of the gates housing from DEMA look like there is quite a lot of space inside. I am sure it is for heat dissipation but maybe one could fit an Atomos in there. Can they be set up to only record when the camera records

I'd bet that Gates are hoping that the Scarlet will fit into the EPIC housing. It would certainly save a fortune on development costs that's for sure.

Done mine ordered as well with a Red mote, I actually thought it was the same body as Epic due to all accessories for Epic being interchangeable with Scarlet, so fingers crossed re a housing, but I have a guy here in Oz who is doing something pretty cool with housings so there could be a few options.

Just saw a test with the Samurai and and Epic, and it worked like a treat.

Hey Jonny

Is there footage of that test some where online or did you see it first hand.

Thanks

1: Can the Atmos Samurai use the SDI Flag to start & stop recording? i.e. start recording when the camera starts to record. Record signal transmitted via the SDI interface

2: Can it also accept external time code?

Thanks
