Drew 0 Posted November 5, 2011 Mark Yes, there is a SDI Trigger. It's also Genlock capable. It's even got lanc capability which gives more options for housings.
limeyx 0 Posted November 5, 2011 LOL when RED said they were bringing a Bazooka to a knife fight for once they really were not exaggerating! Makes the Canon announcement look rather lame... Canon announced something??

John Doe 0 Posted November 6, 2011 I'm a bit worried that Gates had no announcement of a housing for Scarlet. You would have thought given all the hype leading up the Scarlet announcement that *IF* gates had a housing for it they would have been shouting from the rooftops about it. Anyone have a link to the gates Epic housing because i can see no reference to it on the Gates webs site. It would so cruel if Scarlet gets no housing! Drew 0 Posted November 6, 2011 John I think you'll be pretty safe. If Gates makes one for the Epic, I can't see why they wouldn't do so for the similarly sized Scarlet, which uses the same Redmote etc. I remember they were talking orders for Deep Epic (if my memory doesn't fail me) a few months ago. I don't see any reference to a deep epic on the gates site. Is there anything on the web anywhere about the epic housing from Gates? I've been waiting for Scarlet for a loooong time now - now its finally here and no mention of an housing from any manufacturer. I sure hope they start coming out soon. I don't want to pull the trigger on the Scarlet until i know housings are available for it. I reckon this is going to run 50+ K for the camera/lens/housing/lights
JohnE 8 Posted November 6, 2011 Decompressing from DEMA now, heading back to SD. Pics of Scarlet look identical to EPIC. That means EPIC-X, EPIC-M and Scarlet are supported and interchangeable in DEEP EPIC. Confirming with RDCC. Orders for DEEP EPIC are being taken. $1000 deposit. For me its only Scarlet and only Gates - nothing else will do! To answer my own question in my last post, yep a quick Google brings up tons of info.....to be honest I'd given up on Scarlet ever arriving so have not been following any of this - you can only get hyped so many times! Anyway, its real and its here. If Gates come through we are all set to go. Good thing is i have had long enough to save up the money ;-) J.D

From my handling of the Scarlet, the components are the same except for the big vent bulge on the top of the Epic. I doubt you'll be cutting it that close so it'll be fine. JohnE 8 Posted November 7, 2011 Is that 20K for the Deep Epic??? Dean Yes, just under, and includes: * DEEP EPIC housing * External monitor (your choice of 5.6" or 5") * Integrated REDMOTE Controller * FP80 or SP80 Port (acrylic) * PE286 Port Extender -- covers most lenses used. Longer / shorter available, price slightly different * Seal Check * Travel case(s). We're working hard to get the main housing case under the airline travel limit of 50lbs (US). Delivery: I expect shipments will start in December, and we'll start clearing our backlog. If you order now, expect February delivery. Question to all: a mechanical and servo zoom options are available. For manufacturing planning sake, I'd like to know your preference. J-
Drew 0 Posted November 7, 2011 John What lenses are covered? I assume the list for Deep Red is applicable? What about the Zeiss LWZ? Or is that a per request basis?
SimonSpear 65 Posted November 7, 2011 Also, if you read Howard Hall's Lembeh report, his Red One actually melted, I suppose as heat built up in the housing during those super-long Lembeh dives. I've no idea if the more recent Reds run cooler, or whether housing design can somehow cater for it, but it's worth bearing in mind. Hiya Nick RED are claiming that the Scarlet runs a lot cooler than EPIC or the RED ONE. I'm not entirely sure why it would run cooler than the EPIC at the same res/frame rate, so perhaps it is just that you can't work it as hard with overcranking etc. With regard to HH melting his RED ONE at Lembeh then I'm sure a few Sony's and Canon's have also melted there over the years! I know I was pushing my kit to the limit with 3x2 hour dives a day Cheers, Simon

TheRealDrew 0 Posted November 7, 2011 Prices are $9750 for Aluminum EF mount, $11250 for Ti PL or Ti EF mount (body/brain only!) Kind of hard to imagine how the prices went up so much. At one point they were coming in at under $3,000 during some of the initial Scarlet is being released news items, starting in 2008 The last time I looked it had gone up, but I think the fixed lens option was still coming in under $5,000. SimonSpear 65 Posted November 7, 2011 I saved a little from every job over the last couple of years and put it into an account. I could have bought an EX1, EX3 or XF305 over the last couple of years but held off. Initially I thought the money I'd saved would cover the camera AND the housing but with the price increase I don't even have enough for the camera. Oh well back to saving again but fingers crossed this camera should last a good few years....well until the next new best thing comes out of course! haha
DeanB 19 Posted November 7, 2011 Rent one! all the production and rental houses will have them and like RED ONE the costs will fall pretty quick... If I had the money I'd probably look at it, however getting It underwater is another thing altogether. Give it 6 months to a year and the price per unit will hopefully drop and the firmware updates will be already installed... Then there will be Lytro X plus 5k 4D??? Or RED ROUGE XT7 Dean
jonny shaw 16 Posted November 7, 2011 I have done the same as Simon and put cash away from every job to upgrade. Dean, renting is a good idea but it is expensive and to be honest renting here is OZ for underwater gear just doesn't happen. If you need a housing for a two day shoot the shipping and renting costs are obscene. So I look at it the other way and if I own it people can rent it from me and pay those costs. The camera itself will pay for itself within a few months for me, the housing will take longer. My poor old 7D's / 5D's and A1's have paid for themselves about 30 times over each, but I really need a better more professional camera. Clients look at a 7/5D and do need some convincing, they love the images but I think they expect something bigger, weird I know but true.
JohnE 8 Posted November 8, 2011 JohnWhat lenses are covered? I assume the list for Deep Red is applicable? What about the Zeiss LWZ? Or is that a per request basis? Same as DEEP RED, but any lens can be added to the list. If it's PL or the new Canon 4K lenses we can use published dimensions to pick the best port extender match. Nikon and Canon DSLR glass require gears fitted here at Gates to check clearances. http://www.gateshousings.com/upload/medial...lens-matrix.pdf
