Yes Gates...

The camera actually worked out better than I thought price wise with the strong Aussie dollar. Plus I didn't get the little red volts or side handle, I have gone V locks to power the camera.

Can we be cheeky and ask what the total cost (including housing) is please Jonny?

That would be the wiser way to set up if you want to shoot more than 40 mins at a time. Please post a pic of the setup when you have time. Did you get the Redmote or Monitor?

I got both the redmote and touch screen, the redmote is great.

Total cost for the camera in a usable state with batteries, redmote, touchscreen, 64GB card, and the various little bits like top plates, handles, battery plate, rail mounts etc etc (purchased from wooden camera as they are a heap cheaper than Red) was give or take a $100 or bucks $14K

I know a few people with Epics so will borrow their 256gb cards to start if I need to while I recoup some of the costs before I buy more media.

The housing set up for a Tokina 11-16 will glass dome and extender is $22K

I will probably add the HDSDI out and 100 ft cable to the housing also which I think is about $1200

So around £25K ... Jeez I'd need to be working on bleeding lot of blue chip BBC progs to justify that! and I expect you would add a few more £££'s to buy it in the UK?

Good luck with it all buddy I sure hope it pays off for you... Sounds like a nice bit of kit anyhow

Thanks mate, and yeah massive investment and risk.

I do have a big show locked in for next Jan/ Feb which was supposed to happen this year and that will cover the cost, but you are right. I need some solid productions to get it earning me the dollars

For those of you who are interested there are some pics of the housing on my facebook page http://facebook.com/ginclearfilm

I have done a couple of pool shoots over the last couple of weeks but unfortunately I can't post the footage, I thought I would post a couple of frame grabs, conditions were pretty average 4-5m vis but the images didn't look to bad. The one the brilliant things with the R3D's is that they are so easy to grade. The stills are actually at under half resolution too :)

It's a pity the Scarlet can't do HDRx at 24p.

Will do mate, just flat chat on a couple of jobs at the moment, I want to get up the coast a little and shoot some decent subjects in clear water

Rich Stevenson posted some Red Epic underwater footage. Heavily compressed though. Not sure if the footage has been desaturated in post, or if Rich had his settings that way, or if the subject just needs to get out in the sun more.

(maybe a mod could add "Epic" into the thread's title, as this seems to be for Epic posts too?)

Some stills and I will have some quick cuts from last weeks diving, the first two were at 10mm the second was at 13mm, I actually didn't shoot anything at 17mm as the vis was pretty ordinary.

I am just exporting and will upload some video tonight, nothing mind blowing but it will give you an idea

Quick and dirty cut, conditions weren't great, vis on the wreck was 5-7m, Fish Rock was better at 15m vis but the depth was reasonably deep at about 30m. I am going to sound like every other guy with a Red but the vimeo thing just doesn't do it justice. I watched it on a 2K projector and it looked flippin awesome..... and that is at half res.

Thanks Pete, I'm not too sure about the grade but hey I cut and graded it in a hour or so in Premier Pro. Was actually really easy as you have a live update with RedCine X and PP handles the native files easily.

Try to shoot in HDRX in 2k and process in CineX Pro. You find the latitude to be very nice.

I'll give it a bash Drew, I haven't actually shot any HDRx stuff at all, my reservation would be the FOV at 2K.... worth a go though

Hey Jonny

I am interested how you handled WB with these shots. Did you do all the white balance in post or did you try and get it as close as possible while shooting. If so did you set the K temp or use another method

White balance is just metadata so it doesn't make any difference. I did manually WB on a couple of dives so it looked better on the monitor but don't really worry about it. Working with R3d's in post is a huge learning curve. You have so much latitude to work with and you really need to work it to get the best from it.

Just saw that John E announced Deep Scarlet, same as Deep Epic but not with Redmote, Tally light and a couple of other bits including port and either PE160 or PE286 for under 15K. Very cool, although I have to admit that having access to redmote is awesome and I use it on pretty much every job.
