moody octopus shots

Recommended Posts

just a couple of moody shots of a moody octopus taken with a canon g10 with the onboard flash at dusk.

Nowhere near as good as the pros on this site but im trying :B): any criticism is more than welcome

I think both photos are breathtaking in their own regard. Great composition and the graininess of the 1st photo (assuming you did it by boosting the ISO) only adds to it. Very well done.

Being an addict for the vertical format...and getting to be one for black and white...the first one is really super!!!

Well done! :-)

thanks for the support :B):

the graininess of the first one is partly due to iso, partly due to sharpening (oversharpening??) because of the lowlight conditions and crappy onboard flash (my strobe trigger decided to stop working ) It's the octopus' natural grainy pattern but oversharpened

Lovely images well done ... You look like you have the eye and skill so don't compare to the 'Pros' whatever they are lol ... If you had taken this with a Nikon D4 set up then it would only have added some technical 'wow' factor ... Keep doing what you are doing, which to me is taking awesome images :)

I like them both but like the first one better. It looks like he/she is about to tear someone a new a**.

thanks a lot for the kind words - it's quite intimidating posting pics here (that's why ive lurked for a long time before finally posting!) but it's very encouraging.

I also like the first one for the same reason paul - he really seems pissed off! I like the second one for the texture of the skin - it almost looks like elephant skin or even rock

The first one is simply amazing, wonderful work

On the second I get a bit distracted from the highlights to the left versus the eye to the right. Maybe they can be darkened or cropped?

I find the above a little bit easier to watch, but it's highly subjective I guess.

Keep it up, I find these images very inspiring =)

I really like the 1st shot. You have a great compositional eye!

The 2nd shot would probably be equally as awesome if it wasn't in comparison to the legendary 1st photo.
