reubencahn 2 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) We've just booked a trip to Raja Ampat from late December to early January. We want extend the trip a bit. Looking at Ambon, Lembeh, or maybe Bali. We've been to Lembeh three times and love it, but we've never been to Ambon and have never done any diving in Bali. Ambon sounds great but would cost about twice as much as Lembeh, and I'm wondering if it's worth it. And I can't quite figure out if January is a good or bad month for Ambon. I was also considering Bali as that's where we'll finish the trip and costs are pretty reasonable, but again I don't know how the diving would be in January during the rainy season. I've read all the posts I could find on Ambon but am wondering how it compares to Lembeh. Same for Bali. Any information or advice about how they compare would be greatly appreciated. operam 1 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) I was in Tulamben (Bali) in December a few years ago. The rain was not an all-day affair, and it was mostly in the afternoon (morning was nice, and the best IMO is the very early morning dive at 6am, but you have to stay in the area to do this). Tulamben is mostly shore diving, in a lot of cases you can still go diving even when it's raining, but of course visibility won't be the best. AllisonFinch 7 Posted February 3, 2012 I just got back from my first trip to Ambon with maluku. They have the absolute BEST mandarin fish site I have ever seen, and I've seen a few. It is right in the harbor and the fish are large, colorful and fearless. I had one sit on my hand and pose for the girls. We also saw some great Rhinos, mimics, wonderpus, bumblebees etc etc etc. I love Lembeh, but if you have been there three times, give Ambon a shot.
