Someone should get one of these underwater. :D

Excerpt from dpreview: "Pre-PMA 2004: Phase One today announced two new medium format backs, the 22 megapixel P25 and the 16 megapixel P20. These backs, unlike others, can be used both tethered and now totally untethered. The P25 has a 48.9 x 36.7 mm (1.9 x 1.4 in) 22 megapixel CCD sensor, the P20 has a 36.9 x 36.9 (1.5 x 1.5 in) 16 megapixel CCD sensor. Both new backs have 2.2" LCD Monitors, Lithium-Ion battery power a Compact Flash shot and Firewire port and are available for the Mamiya 645 AFD, Hasselblad H and Contax 645. The P25 will additionally be available for the Hasselblad V."

Bob, did you read the line under the exerpt Eric quoted?

On a more positive note, it looks like it would fit in my EWA-marine bag, so you could save a few dollars on the housing. And at fifty shots per minute it won't fill up your CF card as quick as the 1D MkII. Plus, now that Phase One backs can function totally untethered you don't need to budget for a laptop housing, so it's really quite a bargain.

At least there is a camera where the housing is really an accessory and not twice as expensive than the camera ;-)

If only the cameras offered really high magnification lenses, like a 180mm macro that did better than 1:1. I'd like 2:1 or 3:1 and I'd be happy (except for the price). I bet the body could be housed.

I was thinking the same Simon - The camera body & lens is the cheap part.

There are housings for Mamiya & Blads.

Macro you would be looking for at least a 300mm @ 1:1 as 45mm is classed as WA!

Not only that, but a 1:1 lens for that camera is not as powerful as 35mm. You would want a rig that could do 3:1. Minimum focus distance on what I've seen is about 17".

A teleconverter on a 120mm macro with something to half the focus distance would be the setup.

Yes, you could buy a nice house in Texas for less money!

Speaking as a mortgage holder on a moderately nice, nothing fancy, house in central Texas... Let me assure you that you cant. You could get a nasty house in a really podunk area two days drive from the nearest airport for about that.

I have a 6*6 hasselblad + housing - but unfortunately these backs don't fit. Not that I could afford them.

Housing two studio flash units could be a problem too, and think of the drag on the parasol reflectors!

great for studio or land work, but way too expensive to risk dipping it in water. Do not forget the excess baggage fees required for the housing. :D

My guess is that if you are serious enough to spring for it, then you could get someone to house it. The question for anyone with about $50,000 to spare is what they intend to shoot with it and what lens are they going to use? A couple of Subtronics or Hartenbergers would do, I'd imagine.

Somehow when I read "parasol reflectors" I imagined Bob diving in a dress.

Looks like he had a 1GB card in it, should be good for about 3 shots with that beast!

The Mega millions lottery is at 289 Million. So with a little luck you could get one, or maybe two, for a dollar.

Then hire a sherpa to haul it around.

I spoke with the Patima guys yesterday, and they are debating producing a high-end, luxury Hasseblad housing made of titanium. It will be limited run, obviously.
