Is there anyway to post a close up of the lure (esca)?

I just remembered I had another poorly exposed clip of it "fishing". Big chunky esca.

Now I'm wondering if it's an albino, bald, Antennarius striatus.

Bingo! I found a match on Teresa Zubi's Antennarius striatus page (halfway down). Amazing how individuals of this species can adapt and differ so much. Clever little things.

Interesting. Antennarius striatus was my first guess. I always think it is funny that you can have a bald Hairy frogfish or a stripeless Striped frogfish.

Cheers,

This one is hunting and catch a small crab:

Cool! That's the first image I've seen of a frogfish taking a hidden crab rather than a swimming fish or shrimp.

Sui - I sent the link to our crustacea curator, Dr. Jody Martin, and he was fascinated. If you slow down the footage is there a clear shot of the crab? He'd like to know what it is.

This is the only moment, when we can see the victim's chela (clow):

I hope you can use this picture and identify the crab.

(I also tried to slow down the video, but it is impossible. My camera records 30 fps and this small frogfish much faster.)

I love the dramatic jaws like music used for a tiny frog fish! Priceless.
