Jfilskov 2 Posted April 28, 2012 Hi there, hope that anyone has some advice on chosing a dome for WA shooting. Im about to purchase a Nauticam NA-7D for my Canon 7d, and I will start out getting a dome for my Sigma 10-20mm WA lens. Trying to stay away from super-expensive options, Im considering getting a Nauticam 6"or 8.5" acrylic dome - anybody have any experience or comments on these combinations? Or alternative options within a similar price range? Im leaning towards the 8.5" because I´d like doing some split shots - and I guess its better than the 6" for that. andy_deitsch 17 Posted April 29, 2012 I have the 8.5" acrylic dome for the NA-7D and don't have a problem packing it. It goes in one of my carry-ons (ThinkTank Antidote) along with my housing, camera, lenses and laptop. All of the rest of my gear goes in a second carry-on. I like the 8.5" dome but I have noticed that it picks up minor scratches on the outer edges of the dome which tend to hold on to air bubbles. I now make a regular habit of swiping my hand around the dome to get rid of any bubbles but I lost several good shots from a dive because I hadn't noticed them when looking at the pics in the LCD screen and only saw them later in post-processing. Ryan 57 Posted April 30, 2012 The 6" and 8.5" acrylic domes (pn 18801 and 18802) are both cut from the same size optical element. 18802 retains nearly the full hemisphere allowing it to be used with fisheye lenses, and 18801 is cut down leaving only the portion of the lens needed for the 110deg field of view from Sigma 10-20. Considering that at some point i might pick up the Tokina 10-17mm fisheye lens, Im probably best off getting the 8,5" right away...and then just deal with the hassle of transportation.
