Alex_Mustard 0 Posted May 1, 2012 Help. Hopefully a quick question with a quick answer. I shot a fair amount of test video footage with the Nikon D4 in Iceland. I didn't make any notes on what ISO's I used for each clip, assuming that they would be embedded in the file like the EXIF's in photos. But there doesn't seem to be any. Help please! I know there's something on Canon DSRL. I don't know on Nikon or other camera. I had the same problem. On Canon you should have a .thm file for every video file. You just rename in jpg and you'll find the exif data embedded in it. Look here: http://wikis.evergreen.edu/computing/index...ta_-_DSLR_Video
Drew 0 Posted May 1, 2012 Alex, there's a .thm file with the corresponding .mov file. Just use something like EXIFviewer and all the info and much more will be there. That is, IF you copied them over! Skype me if you need more help. Read my post down below!
Alex_Mustard 0 Posted May 1, 2012 Thanks - i think my problem was that I read the files in via Lightroom and it didn't bring the sidecar files. Bugger. Not a big problem - I am pretty sure I used ISO 12,800 for the test video but I wanted to double check. I'll make sure I comment the review that I am not 100% sure. ChrigelKarrer 52 Posted May 1, 2012 Alex, where are those files stored and what's their name? My D7000 don't store any other files as the .mov, but maybe the D800 is diferent. Chris

Drew 0 Posted May 1, 2012 Sorry brain fart. My info is old. The new DSLR imbed the EXIF info INSIDE the .mov file. I just checked and CS6,FCX,Edius 6 don't read the EXIF data from the DSLR files. I only have my 5D3 files on this computer. The D4/D800 files I can't find to test. But try using View 2 from Nikon. Should be able to get it from there. Sorry for the old info! Chris, the D7000 is the same.
Drew 0 Posted May 2, 2012 Hmmm the D4 files do not have shutter/aperture/ISO info in the EXIF. I have to find my D800 clips now. This would be a stupid omission by Nikon.
ehanauer 50 Posted May 2, 2012 On the D7000 exposure compensation is done by the camera changing ISO instead of aperture, which can't be changed in live view. So your video was shot at different ISOs. If the D4 video is similar, which I think it is, that's the answer.
Drew 0 Posted May 2, 2012 Eric The D4 and D800 are full manual. However, it makes sense that Nikon may have left out metadata as an oversight, since full manual is new. Something to write them about. Should be an easy firmware fix.
ATJ 1 Posted May 3, 2012 I get very little data for movies from my D7000. Oceanshutter 121 Posted May 6, 2012 Alex, Not sure if it will work for Nikon, but with my canon 5d mark ii video files, you can load them into adobe Lightroom and see the ISO, aperture, and f stop. I would imagine the Nikon files will work. I havent tested this on Lightroom 4x. I think I am using 3.6 if memory serves me correct. With the new Lightroom they have added some video editing capabilities, so would imagine they didn't remove this functionality. Dustin

Oceanshutter 121 Posted May 7, 2012 No exposure, focal length or equipment information at all for Nikon D7000 .MOV files in Lightroom 3.6 on the Mac. You are right. I just tried a D7000 file that I downloaded off the web and it didn't work. I couldn't find a D4 sample. This was on Lightroom 3.4. Here is what it looks like with my canon .mov files: Dustin Capture by mantadude, on Flickr
