BC Polycheate ID

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have couple of polychaetes that I couldn't ID. These are all collected from British Columbia coasts (Strait of Georgia), and I need to ID them for my PhD study. I am currently working on their traces in the sediment, but first I need to know what species they are. So, any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Cheers

Welcome to Wetpixel-- You've come to the right place since polychaetes are my speciality. However, it's not really possible to definitely ID worms based on photos like these. I can give you family & sometimes genus but if you need species level ids contact me personally.

1 - Family Goniadidae, genus Goniada

2 - Family Onuphidae, genus Diopatra if the gills are spiralled filaments

3 - Family Terebellidae, genus Pista?

4 - Family Flabelligeridae, genus Brada, maybe B. pluribranchiata

5 - Family Terebellidae

6 - maybe family Eunicidae - only a median fragment is showing

7 - Family Capitellidae

8 - Fanily Ampharetidae

Hi Leslie,

I feel luck that I now have an experts comment. These IDs seem to be more than enough for my research.

I may compare couple of them with the BC polychaete list to be able to determine their species names, but without your help this wouldn't have been possible.

Thank you for your guidance and help.

I may open new ID topics in the future, or I may even share my results on this page.

Cheers
