Hey Edward.

Did you have a port for the 12-50 lens, that lets you activate macro mode? Flat port, or dome?

I see several shots at 43mm, which is the macro setting, yes?

Did you have any wet macro lenses on for the pygmy sea horses?

Did you try any shots at the 12mm end behind a dome?

Thanks!

I have the camera. Just waiting to see how the housings and ports come out..

Hi Edward,

Very nice pictures and nice work for making such a nice housing for OM-D.

I have ordered a housing in Hong Kong, and the port for 12-50 which is great for both wide and macro shot.Best for travel as well.

Just want to ask you what is the best M3/4 lens for wide angle to use underwater.

I have a ED 9-18mm lens.

BTW, is the Inon 45 degress view finder compatible to Nauticam, need an adaptor of cause.

Thank you very much !!

Regards

Edmond Chan

Hi Don,

I was shooting with a prototype port + gears we developed for the 12-50 lens, which has a knob on the port to switch between macro and PZ mode. Power zoom can be operated by the knob on the housing. Manual zooming is not supported. We are finalizing the design, and will start production next week. Hopefully some initial ones will be in market in 2-3 weeks. But they are on the expensive side as the whole system is quite complex; and assembling it onto the lens can take some time.

It is a flat port with 67mm thread at the front. As we are not preparing to build a new dome port for this lens I didn't test it this time. I would think if you are not going to use the macro mode you can try using one of our dome port, for example the one for the Oly 9-18, while setting the lens either to 12mm or 50mm by the camera.

I used an Inon UCL-165-M67 for the pygmy sea horse.

Hi Edmond,

I consider the ED 9-18 a very good and useful lens for underwater. If your Inon 45 degrees viewfinder already has an adapter for our standard viewfinder mounting ring (such as one on our DSLR housings) that will work.

Hi Bubblke7,

That will be around 3 weeks.

Edward

If there is any way to support manual zoom, this would be preferred. Electronic zooms are never at the place you want them, while the subject is still in sight...

Hi Edward,

Thank you for your advice.

What you mean is that the Dome port for Oly 9-18 is also compatible to the new Oly 12-50,just cannot operate the macro mode ?

The current Inon 45-degress viewfinder I have now was installed at my ikelite housing and I am not sure if the adaptor works with Nauticam as well.

Can you tell me the parts number of the adapter that I need to order from Nauticam in order to install Inon 45 degree viewfinder onto the OM-D housing?

Thank you very much !!

Best regards

Edmond Chan

Hello Edward

And thank you to show us these pictures and to have built such a beautiful housing . I've got mine since Thursday ( thank to Alex ) and have try it one time I'm going to dive again this week , and hope to get some very good pictures to show smile.png

I've seen on the user manual of the OMD that an accessory is a new LCD window to be able to use a viewfinder , will I need to send back my housing to mount it ?

Thank

Dominique

Hi Edmond,

Our Service eng, Thomas, will e-mail you regarding possibly fixing the Inon 45 degrees VF to your housing. BTW, he will be testing the lens behide our Oly 9-18 dome and will let you know the result.

Hi Dominique,

The optional LCD window can be swapped easily without any tool.

Best regards,

Edward

Hi Phil, Saw some of the images and they are great, thanks for sharing. Will await your review of the housing.

As an ex Oly E330 user (now use Nauticam/7D combo) I have a few lenses with me and was looking at The OM D E M5 as a second system. Have the following lenses that i primarily used underwater with the E330. Can these be used with Nauticam Housing for the OM D E M5 ? Are there relevant ports available for the same ?

Oly 8 mm Fisheye

Oly 50 mm macro - w and wo the oly 1.4ex tele convertor

Sigma 18-50 mm 2.8 Macro cum tele lens

Thanks for any help on this Phil,

Hello Diggy,

Nauticam has not announced any type of adapter for the Olympus style 4/3 lens ports. I am sure that one of Nauticams flat ports would work with the M43 to 4/3 adapter and the 50 macro, the 1.4 TC may also fit but I have not done the math. I would be testing the 50 macro on the E-M5 with the adapter and the TC I hear it is very SLOW to focus. I no nothing about the Sigam and the 8mm fisheye may be a problem as well.

Olympus on the other hand has an adapter for the PT-E08 housing which will work with the existing lenses you have and the old style 4/3 ports from Athena, Inon, Olympus and others. Going this way may save you money but in the end you will still need to deal with the slow auto focus using the M43 to 43 adapter for your lenses. If you had an Olympus housing for your E-330 you may still have ports that would convert.

I had the Olympus E-3 and SeaTool housing with several lenses and ports. I sold that stuff and just started over since 43 development has sort of come to a stop for the next year or two.

Thanks for all the input and info Phil,

Unfortunately i was using the 10 bar housing :( Its a pity that nauticam does not have a solution as yet cause these are some really wonderful lenses. But you may be right that the flat port may work. Wonder which dome for the fisheye though. Is the slow focus part of the adapter problem or will a powerful focus light like a sola800 or similar eradicate this problem ?

Thanks again,

Edward, any results from your testing? Also, are there any other ports to use with the 12-50. Headed on a trip most likely before I can acquire the 12-50 port, and would still like to use the 12-50.

Thanks,

Terry

Hi Diggy,

Sorry this took so long, it is a result of the 4/3 to M43 adapter which does not work any better out of the water v. a M43 lens.

Hi,

last weekend i went to the netherland to check the new OMD in the Nauticam Housing. Vis was about 1m - so there is a lot of backscatter on the Pics - but i din't remove it or made any postprocessing (only corp). I only had the 8mm Fisheye with the domeport.

The housing worked great even if you wear gloves. AF is very fast und the sharpness even in the corners very good. The whole eqipment is very compact and lite.
