A minor detail question re. Ikelite bulkheadconnectors.

Recommended Posts

Hi y'all =)

Im making a little waterproof box connector where i have a ikelite bulkhead (http://ikelite.com/web_pages/ics_conn.html, part #9104.55) and going to mount it into a peli waterproof case. Now i'm wondering, will the o-ring seal on the bulkhead work well with the plastic of the case or should i put a threaded metal plate inbetween (and epoxy it so it's sealed to the peli case)? Thought you guys have probably done things like this already so why not ask =)

The thing im doing btw is to sync a Pocketwizard (inside the peli case) with the camera housing. The electronics and everything works so far just curious about how to get the best seal, even though the actual case will be surface or even above water. I'd rather not accidentally drag it down and drown the pocketwizard if i can avoid it.

Regards,

Henrik

If you mount the bulkhead on a flat surface as per Ikelite standard procedure, you will not have any issue, Do, however< make a test without the pocket wizard inside just to confirm how great a handy man you are.

I use the same connecting procedure for my underwater studio set up, except I custom built the housing out of PVC material (radio signal just don<t cut trough aluminum very well, and will not reach one meter when totally underwater.

Here are a couple of shots on how I am set up.

Wow thanx Jean. Very nice reply and its great to see your setup. Funny to see the tripod for the camera aswell ;D

Im going to try without the PW first and bring it way deper than it ever will be. its supposed to sit at the surface ofcourse but going to take it down to around 15-30 ft to see if it leaks or not.

Cheers,

Henrik

Also, make sure the pocket wizard have their antenna vertical, when horizontal, they loose a awful lot of range.

I have the new PW 2's. They have a stronger antenna (and the ability to relay if needed aswell). But i'm planning to have the actual box actually on the side of the pool, the protection is more for if it gets dragged into water and under, and the times when i need it to be floating. i thought i'd weigh it down on the inside like yours so it stands up in the water aswell.
