Polly Pirate 0 Posted September 20, 2012 Saw this yesterday in about 15feet of sea water. Bequia, St Vincent and the Grenadines. Help with species name please!
Leslie 0 Posted September 21, 2012 Hi Polly -- Not a fireworm but a scaleworm in the family Acoetidae. Unfortunately I can't give you a species name. Scientific literature is based on preserved specimens and we don't know what the different species look like when they're alive, or if they can even be told apart when they're alive. Great photo though!
Polly Pirate 0 Posted September 23, 2012 Hi Leslie, Wow that is so cool to find then! I have never seen one like this before in our area. It was crawling over a disused anchor and then quickly tried to disappear in the turtle grass once it realized we were there.
