On a trip it would seem to be a good idea to use several 4g SC cards rather than keep all you images on one 16 or 32. Sort of like not keeping all your eggs in one basket. I have also recently bought a 7" android tablet (weighs much less than a laptop and fits in the leg pocket of my trousers, so I don't need to put it in my carry-on luggage when flying) to which I can download pictures as extra back-up. If I get particularly interesting shots which I want to share with friends right away, I can also do preliminary image editing, e-mail images and download direct to Flickr via Photoshop Express using the resort's wifi connection. troporobo 251 Posted September 24, 2012 SD cards are so cheap now, just use a bunch of 'em I always have a computer with me, so I just download from the cards each day. If you don't carry a one, you could take a portable hard drive and borrow a computer for 5 minutes a day I also backup to an iPod Classic that has about 50Gb free space. I like redundancy! divengolf 17 Posted September 24, 2012 Most folks do a backup of one sort or another after evey dive or two. I carry a couple 32GB USB sticks and have always been able to borrow a computer or use the ships/resorts computer. I'm already carrying a ton of gear, and don't want the extra weight of a laptop. Besides I gave up my laptop when I retired. I'm not in the 24/7 connected crowd. I do dual backups. so I leave for home with three sets of photo files. I'm a big believer in Murphy. If you're shooting in RAW, you'll go through small SD chips pretty fast. My D7000 is about 20 MB per shot in RAW. Adds up quickly. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I back up each card on a lap top, but no longer use mutiple drives. I save the card (locked) as a back up. A 4 gB card is more than enough for a day's shooting on my cameras.
