Best way to get to Palau

I'm looking for information on how to get to Palau from anywhere in SE Asia. If someone could give me a lsit of Airlines and routes i would really appreciate it. I've read before that i may have to make a connecting flight in somewhere like Manila but i can't find flights to Koror (i have to fly here right?) with any of the Filipino airlines??

The Manila to Koror flight is with Continental, which is now... United is it?

 

There are also several companies flying from Taiwan..

Wea re going there in December. We connect to Taipei and then fly directly to Koror on China Airlines

Thanks for the info.. The price of flights is extortionate!! Some a couple of thousand £££ looking to go in Dec but not paying those prices.. I only paid £450 return to get to Singapore, half way round the world..

I admit I must agree, Palau has been on my bucketlist but the exorbitant flight costs and long layover times, yes its cheaper and easier for me to fly to the US from Australia than to Palau.. So I ll just continue to dive the Indo coral triangle instead.. Lembeh, Komodo, RajaAmpat.. Can anyone tell me im better off diving Palau than these destinations?

I have been to everywhere you listed other than raja. In my opinion, Palau has the most diverse diving. Wrecks, walls, drift, sharks, mantas, jellyfish lake, channels, caves, and not to mention the beautiful topography. Having said that, it isn't the best for any one thing. It's just really good for everything.

 

Lembeh is tough to beat from a critter standpoint. And in my opinion is the best of all the destinations you mentioned from a photography standpoint. The macro in Palau isn't even in the same discussion as lembeh. Lembeh however, is not diverse in the sense of the type of diving. Basically all muck.

 

Komodo, personally, I was disappointed in. When I went, I had just come back from lembeh, and so the macro was not as dense and disappointing. Granted I did not goto, horseshoe bay because of wind. The reefs there were better than Palau, but not by much. Palau had much more sharks as well. I didn't feel that Komodo was really great for photographers, as the currents made life hard. Palau has current but a lot of the time you are hooked in and so it's easy. So for me I would repeat Palau before Komodo.

 

 

Haven't been to raja but heard it is wonderful. My impression is that it is similar to Komodo for a lush reef standpoint, and based on my experience in Komodo, I am less likely to goto raja soon. the main reason, is that it is hard to get to for me.

I guess one has to dive different places at different times perhaps with different ops to get a proper idea of what a region has to offer.. We got just about everything in komodo, walls dense with encrusted hard/soft corals, colour explosions, volcanic sulphurous bubbles emanating from black sand.. many schools of fish, a squadron of feeding 20+ mantas, Devil Rays.. amazing macro critterfest.. Mucky sites.. Adrenalin drifts, 60+ m vis at times.. The only thing missing was sharkiness.. And other pelagics.. like barracudas.. Only saw few white tips and few eagle rays...

That said.. And not trying to divert too far from the OP question Id like to know also what would be the most cost and time effective route to palau from either KL, Singapore or Manila. I have found anything less than $1500-2000 usd to travel a short distance
