custom 4 Posted November 18, 2012 After reading concerns about the new Sea&Sea D1's which I just received, I have decided to put this strobe sale on hold. Once my confidence is where it needs to be, I will relist. Sorry for the inconvenience. What a P.I.T.A.!!!!

custom 4 Posted May 17, 2013 Hi there, are you happy with your D1's now or do you prefer the Inon's Sorry for the delayed response. Just returned from Bali . Pros and cons-D1 similar in size for travel/diving(important) but more powerful. Having more GN in similar size is better. You already know about the diffuser options of both strobes so I will only address a couple issues that I feel S&S dropped the ball on with the D1. Auto shut off to save battery could be a nice feature if you could turn on/off yourself. After a period of dormancy the strobe just turns off. I personally do not care for this option but it has a quick solution, turn switch to off position then back on. If you are focusing on a behavior such as waiting for that jawfish to spit and roll eggs, you may be there for a while. When it finally happens and your strobes have gone dormant, well then it wasn't such a good feature. Secondly and probably a bit more annoying is its "slave" capability. It sucks. For my purposes anyway. The D1 has a sensor flap where you plug in the fiber optic cable then to housing-fine. If you want slave function that flap would need to be propped open or removed. Up in the small hole under flap is where photo cell is that receives signal. So, you have to have your main strobe flash pretty close or at least the light has to be able to find its way up that small hole to sensor-NOT! Inon just put a decent sized photo cell on the outside with 360* coverage and if you don't want it then screw on black cap-done. Or if your internal circuitry would allow something like a "triggerfish" to be connected(Inon and others can be used with this like a charm as well) with cable to fire strobe in slave mode. Nope, S&S's(SunPak) wisdom changed circuitry to not allow this. So, I needed to improvise. I purchased a couple of the S&S fiber optic plugs(that plug into strobe) from DiverVision. I then pulled out a couple 6" fiber optic strands from a spare cable I had in garage. Inserted into plugs with included allen wrench and that helped a great deal. Is it ideal-no but it greatly improved the D1's limitations. The Inon's are very dependable and great little units. I will "probably" sell my 240's because I prefer the greater power capabilities if needed. I will continue to try and tweak my slave issue and try and be vigilent with the auto shut off. custom 4 Posted September 9, 2013 Erik, Thank you for your consideration. They are available. Sorry for delayed response, I thought (mistakenly) that I would be contacted if I got a reply. You may PM me with what you would like. I have the 2 fiber optics pictured above and 2 more of different lengths(one end metal cap to Nauticam the other end plastic to Inon-straight, not L-type). I do not think they were ever used. I had them for spare back ups. Cheers, Wayne shutterthethought@comcast.net.
custom 4 Posted September 19, 2013 I will be going to Bonaire Sept 21-30. Inons and cables will be home here in Jupiter. If anyone is interested I will try to stay in touch with PM's. I just do not know how good the WiFi is at Capt Don's. I will leave the boxed strobes and cables for my wife to mail if someone can not wait for me to return. Cheers
