girelle 19 Posted January 1, 2013 Wrecks and groupers are the best reasons for diving around my home in the south of France : and there's many reasons also to dive in Philippinas , like jacks and turtles from Balicasan island Both pictures have been taken with Olympus OMD-EM5 , and Panasonic 8mm fisheye .
JackConnick 75 Posted January 1, 2013 It's been a year for less local diving and a couple of trips; to the Phillipines and to Fiji. I mostly shot macro in the PI and w/a in Fiji, so my more memorable images are the reverse of that flow. John Bantin 101 Posted January 2, 2013 (edited) I chose this one only because I thought it would make a great DPS but it never got used...(They prefered the turtle framed upin the centre but without any jacks.) John Bantin 101 Posted January 2, 2013 This was taken during the same dive. (Tubbataha Philippines)
garyyoss 6 Posted January 3, 2013 Here are my two favorites from 2012. The first is of a Goliath Grouper in Jupiter, FL and the second of my wife in the Chac Mool Cenote. Happy New Year
Gujustud 3 Posted January 3, 2013 Just came across this right now via Google+ and got caught up with the amazing photos here. Figured I'd chime in with a few images from earlier this year, while I was getting my divemaster certification in the Philippines.

vetdiver 8 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) I love this thread - Pam Murph, your image is lovely, and I love the humor of the model's Mickey ears! This year, after 20 years of diving open circuit, I got certified to dive on a closed-circuit rebreather. My class was at the beginning of July, and I had to put aside my camera for a while afterwards so I could become comfortable with new buoyancy and other skills. The first day I took my camera back out, I was pretty nervous; I could hardly shoot for constantly checking my pO2. That dive day coincided with what we in Southern California see as a nearly annual event - an influx of jellyfish that come in briefly, then disappear. This year's jelly was a pretty uncommon one, the black sea nettle. (I had only seen one of these before, years ago, and it was pretty beaten up.) Seeing tens of them in the water column on this day was incredible. We brought some friends out to shoot them 2 days later, and the vis and jelly numbers had dropped precipitously. This image was my favorite of the year because it was the first real encounter I'd had with these creatures...and most of all because it was my first day getting used to diving a rebreather with my camera in hand. I didn't take many photos, but because there weren't a bunch of exhalation bubbles, I got a few keepers anyways. Here's to great diving and successful shooting in 2013!! photovan 0 Posted January 7, 2013 Here's my favourite from 2012, shot in Swallows Cave in Tonga. The location will be very familiar to anyone who knows Tonga's Vava'u Island Group. I like the image because its shot in a place I snorkel with my groups on many occasions every whale season... and I try to do a new and different view each time I'm in there... loftus 42 Posted January 7, 2013 Great Image Darren; really creative use of the 8-15. Definitely have to get in the water more this year!!!

JimSwims 31 Posted January 8, 2013 Some great shots here as usual, I love seeing this annual thread as it unfurls. My diving was a little quieter this year and my two shots are bookends of the year for me. Both taken in the neighbouring state, South Australia, but in very different locations. Neither my "best work" perhaps, but meaningful and satisfying to me nonetheless. First image is a macro of a Hairy Pistol Prawn(Shrimp) a critter I had only had a fleeting encounter of in the past. Just managed this pleasing composition before it vanished with a flick of its tail. Peachy. by JimSwims, on Flickr Second shot is a Wide Angle image, a rarity for me but the crystal clear waters of the aquifers around Mt Gambier make even me look good. It was taken in the third pond at Ewens Ponds during a single snorkel there. I really like the colours and play of light captured. Algae Landscape. by JimSwims, on Flickr Cheers, Jim. pdemaagt 6 Posted January 10, 2013 I like this shot because of the moment. I've always dreamed of seeing this many sharks in one place, and I finally got to. Wauww....where was this?

elbuzo 8 Posted January 10, 2013 (edited) This was my favourite from last year because i think is the most difficult subject i've had ever try to photograph . Edited January 10, 2013 by elbuzo
lundysd 4 Posted February 7, 2013 I realize I'm a little late to this party, but I wanted to share my most memorable photo of 2012. As some of you may know, the Pacific Northwest is known for its species of sixgill cowsharks, one of the most ancient species of sharks still around today (and one of the few with only one small dorsal fin). While sixgill sightings were once common, to my knowledge there have been few (if any) sightings in the past 7 years. We were lucky enough to stumble upon a small group of these animals at a particular dive site last summer. It appeared that there were at least 3 distinct sixgills in the area, all relatively young and ranging in size from 3 feet to 9 feet long. This is a photo of the largest animal, a very docile sixgill who allowed us to photograph him for the better part of 30 minutes before we had to return to shallower waters for decompression.
mcliffy2 10 Posted February 8, 2013 Wauww....where was this? This was taken in the south pass of Fakarava, in the Tuamotus, French Polynesia. Some of the best diving in the world, in my opinion. Hundreds of sharks every day, you just drift right into them through the pass.
Autopsea 7 Posted February 8, 2013 I think this is the one for me... I realized I didn't lock the strobes connexions to the camera in the housing during a night dive... I had to use focus light for macro shots, and ended-up playing with the good-old-bokeh style....
Ronyx 6 Posted February 8, 2013 Absolutely love the abstract. I hope you have a big enlargement of that hanging in your house some place The two main ideas I exploited this year. Half-water and long exposure. Philippines. Balicasag. Thailnd. Sail Rock.
