Considering doing a Tiger Shark Diving liveaboard trip in May in the Bahamas. Anyone have any experience with http://www.sharkdiver.com/ ? Is this a good time of the year to go?

Thanks!

Hi,

I have only been diving with Jim Abernethy's - Scuba Adventures. In general I like Jim's approach to the dives.

Can't comment on shark Diver.

We been twice on Abernathy.

Would not consider any one else for this dive.

Shit can happen very quickly on these dives and you want the best in the business!

I'd vote for Jim, although I'm joining a trip on Dolphin Dream later in the year...

... bear in mind that Shear Water isn't very big (in fact, not very big at all)...

I've been with shark diver and Jim Abernethy. Shark diver was ok, but Jim is da man when it comes to tiger sharks. I want to go back to tiger beach, and when I go it will be with Jim.

Jay,

Here is a short trip report I wrote up for Wetpixel back in 09 on the Shearwater. This trip was in June.

Cheers,

Steve

I am also looking at this trip.. Which months are historically the best for tiger/hammerhead sightings?? Since they run the trips April Sept would i be correct in thinking somewhere around the end of may beginning of june?? Roughly what is the price of the 7 day Abernethy expedition? There are no prices on the web site as far as i can see

I've just got back from a trip to Tiger Beach with Mr Stuart Cove. I stayed at the Bahama Bay Resort and motored out each day in the fast Newton. We had fresh bait each day and did not come back stinking of fish. (I did get bitten twice by a tiger and once by a lemon shark) Then I went on the the new hotspot that is the Great Hammerhead Dive.post-4197-0-90663200-1361704497_thumb.jpg

Uhhmmm , very interesting ; great hammerhead is high on my list ! It's quite a shock for me to see how shallow is the hammer in your photo.

John ,one question about that dive : how many people they put in their boat ? Do you think the operation is adequate for photographers or is full of one-day-tourists ?

Thanks for the info

There were seven Epic video cameras and four DSLRs on my trip. The Epic users were happy to change cards during thge day but I preferred to prepare my kit on dry land.

Depth? About the same as Tiger Beach.

Wait what? You got bitten?! I've do a fair bit of shark diving and have only rarely hear of this, especially not twice by a tiger and once by a lemon. Were you right by the bait? I'm off to,tiger beach in August and hope they haven't developed a taste for neoprene crusted humans :)

It's an interesting story. I followed a Steve Backshall BBC crew who were filming a Deadly 60 episode so I guess they had been winding up the sharks to make them deadly! Who knows? It makes a good story! Details will be published soon. I didn't get hurt luckily because in each case it was my metalwork they went for.

John,

I thought Tiger and Lemon sharks prefer the fresher kind of meat. Not the old stale kind that they reportedly went after on ur trip!?
