aandk 0 Posted January 19, 2013 Does anyone know if its ok to dive without the sync port cover on, and no sync cable plugged in? Ive just purchased a z-240 type II from a shop who forgot to post it. They said that the sync port is sealed and ok to dive open. He said he was an inon service technician but im not sure if this sounds right. Thanks
errbrr 73 Posted January 19, 2013 If you mean the optical port, it's fine. There's no o-ring in the cap anyway, it's just there to block the light. I use them with the optical sensor exposed to trigger the strobe from a wired on camera strobe sometimes. If you mean the electrical port, it's NOT FINE. Water and metal pins don't mix. The electrical port cap should have a yellow o-ring in it, and this should be cared for like other o-rings.
aandk 0 Posted January 19, 2013 Yes I mean the electrical sync port on the back of the strobe. Not the optical one. Will it be OK for two days of diving on a holiday while I wait for the cover to arrive? Is it sealed like the in on service tech said?
ChrigelKarrer 52 Posted January 19, 2013 No, it's NOT fine at all as the (salt) water surrounding the pins will lead to corrosion of them and generate malfunction of the strobe. Chris
marcw 8 Posted January 19, 2013 i do not know where you are but you might find a replacement if you are lucky. the threads are common size for the port. maybe find a replacement. why did you take it off?
okuma 64 Posted January 20, 2013 When you get a cap, make sure the 'O' ring is in good, lubricated condition. The electrical port can flood the strobe!
