E_viking 30 Posted March 13, 2013 Hi, SubSee are out of Stock on their Diopters. I have a trip to Indonesia before they are in Stock again. I would like to add a +10 for the trip. ( I have the +5. ) Aquatica does a +10 Diopter that looks good as well. Is the optical quality up to the same standard as the SubSeas? Any experience with it? /Erik
JimSwims 31 Posted March 13, 2013 Have you tried ordering the SubSee from Reef Photo and Video? Cheers, Jim.
E_viking 30 Posted March 13, 2013 @Jim: Good idea! I have not asked them yet. I will. I would be interested if anyone here has tried the Aquatica version and even better compared it to a Subsea.
E_viking 30 Posted March 13, 2013 They were out of them as well. It seems to be out of szock everywhere!

E_viking 30 Posted March 14, 2013 Thanks for the ideas, but all of them seem to be out of them. Has anyone tried the Aquatica +10 Diopter?
Alex_Mustard 0 Posted March 14, 2013 No. The FIT ones are good optically.Alex
Interceptor121 704 Posted March 14, 2013 (edited) Inon just released new lens with 3 elements similar to subsee and can be stacked http://inonnews.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/ucl-100lducl-100m67-close-up-lens.html It is on sale at UW fotopartner in Germany http://www.uw-fotopartner.com/Zubehoer-fuer-Gehaeuse/Objektive/Makro-Linsen/INON-Makrolinse-UCL-100-M67?c=2572 Edited March 14, 2013 by Interceptor121
davichin 18 Posted March 14, 2013 I just talked to Sagadive and has at least one in stock: www.sagadive.com saga@sagadive.com
NWDiver 42 Posted March 14, 2013 (edited) I have used the Aquatica +10 and +5 and found them to be quite good. (FYI I also own and use the Subsee +10) Subsee has an excellent reputation but there are other options, as mentioned above. UCL/FIT are also quite good. IMHO you really have to do serious pixel peeping to see a difference. Edited March 14, 2013 by NWDiver
Stewart L. Sy 12 Posted March 14, 2013 As an Aquatica dealer, I shouldn't comment, but here's a review by Tim Rock about the Aquatica +10: http://www.guammicronesiadivetravel.com/travelblog1/?p=1560 S

They are double elements, are air sealed and coated and have a 67mm thread on them and like Steward say, you can check Tim Rock, he is a long standing member of this forums, he has quite a bit of images taken with those as well. E_viking 30 Posted March 14, 2013 I just talked to Sagadive and has at least one in stock: www.sagadive.com saga@sagadive.com @ David: Thanks they had 1 on Stock. I have reserved and will order it now. Problem solved! I am pretty sure that the Aquatica is pretty similar to the SubSeas.

DiverPam 13 Posted March 14, 2013 How do these compare for ease of use? Does the Aquatica Close Up Kit have to be put on before the dive or can it be moved out of the way underwater like the subsee? Or changed out? Pam
meister 1 Posted March 15, 2013 That was my thoughts as well. I've had the Subsee that easily swings out of the way. In contrast the Aquatica doesn't do so? Any insights here?
Viz'art 24 Posted March 15, 2013 Pam, The Aquatica close up lenses uses a quick snap mount, it can be installed and removed underwater within second
KirkD 7 Posted March 15, 2013 Correct me if I'm wrong, but since the Aquatica has the 67mm threads, they should work on the Subsee adapter to swing in and out. Although I have not tried it. If a member can chime in at had tried this combo, I would sure like to know. Kirk

SlipperyDick 2 Posted March 18, 2013 NOTE: The Aquatica +10 diopter lens is a 2 element achromat (as far as I can tell - but correct me if I'm wrong, Jean), while the SubSee +10 is a 4 element achromatic system. Spreading the +10 dioptric strength over more elements allows significantly less edge distortion to be present. Keri
JimSwims 31 Posted June 6, 2013 (edited) Love my SubSee magnifiers! Took a little to get the right technique down pat but now I've got the hang I'm slowly building a collection of shots I've been after for some time. Loving the detail! http://www.flickr.com/photos/jimswims/tags/subsee10/ Cheers, Jim. Edited June 6, 2013 by JimSwims
davephdv 0 Posted June 10, 2013 I've got a fl diopter that works with any lens with a 67 mm thread so you should be use the Aquatica lens. If I read the review of the Aquatica lens correctly it has an air element like the Subsee. I think it would have to have more than 2 optical elements.
