TRIP LEAD BY BONNIE PELNAR

Explore the WWII wrecks of Truk Lagoon aboard one of the world's favorite live-aboards, the Truk Odyssey. There is no better way to see Truk Lagoon!

This is a very special date for several reasons! February 17, 2014 will be the 70th anniversary of Operation Hailstone, plus it's my birthday too!

The Truk Odyssey is one of the world's finest live-aboard dive boats and they are typically booked up many years in advance. One trip aboard this boat and you'll understand why.

ABOUT ODYSSEY

The Odyssey is a 132 foot live-aboard located in Weno, Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia. On board the Odyssey you’ll find amenities consistent with the world’s top liveaboards. There is a total of nine staterooms. Six staterooms are 14’ x 8’ with either king size or 2 twin beds. Yes, this is big enough to do a cartwheel in! Two private single staterooms are 11’ x 6’. One stateroom is 10’ x 9’ with a double/twin bunk. ALL staterooms have private ensuite facilities, air-conditioning controls, DVD player, and are carpeted. There is air-conditioned throughout the vessel.

There is also a large dining area with full commercial galley. The food aboard Odyssey is outstanding! A separate entertainment lounge with TV, VCR (PAL & NTSC), DVD, stereo, library, large slide table, and bar is located on the A deck. This is a great place to hang out and work on your laptop. Odyssey has all kinds of room, so there are places where you can group to socialize and just as many areas to curl up and read a book in privacy.

Ideal for OAP divers like me, because the wreck is always just below the cabin, although I have a sneaking suspician skipper JJ doesn't like very tall Brits!

We've added a Palau side trip to this itinerary. If you want to do just Palau with us, that's OK too, but there are a few spots left on the Odyssey also.

We will be diving with Sam's Tours and staying at the Sea Passion Hotel. These rates listed here are for 2013. They don't have the 2014 rates yet, but they should be close. Sea Passion is a mid-priced hotel that is very close (10 minute walk) to Sam's Tours and not far from town. We are getting a 7 night package for accommodations plus five days of diving. Here is what it includes:

7 nights accommodations, taxes & service charges included
Roundtrip airport transfers
Complimentary breakfast daily
5 days of 2 tank boat diving
Free Jellyfish Lake snorkeling after one of the 2 tank dive days
Complimentary 3rd tank dive at Chandelier Cave
Unlimited diving at Sam’s Macro Wall
Professional guide, tanks and weights
Free Nitrox up to 32% (with proof of certification)
Hotel transfers on dive days
Lunch and refreshments each dive day
Sam’s Tours water bottle and reef hook

The room rates for this package are:

OCEAN VIEW SINGLE (1 king bed) or MOUNTAIN VIEW TWIN (2 queen beds)
$1,335.00pp double occ/ $1,905.00 single occ

DELUXE OCEAN VIEW (1 king or 2 queen beds) or MOUNTAIN VIEW ROMANTIC (2 queen beds)
$1,390.00pp double occ/ $2,010.00 single occ

SEA PASSION ROMANTIC (with balcony) or OCEAN VIEW SUITE (with balcony)
$1,510.00pp double occ/ $2,255.00 single occ

Airport transfers are $12 per person each way.
Drinks and dinners each person pays on their own.

I'm also planning to do a land tour on the 15th, but have not yet decided which one. Some options are:
Ngardmau Waterfalls
Badrulchau Monoliths
WWII History Tour
Kayak tours
Rock Islands Tour
I've done some of these and they are all awesome. I am leaning toward the Rock Islands tour.

To book this package they ask for 25% up front and the balance due 60 days prior to arrival. To keep thinks simple, I'll just collect $400 per person for this trip and the balance either with the last Odyssey payment, or several months later if anyone prefers that.

About eight people from the Truk group are going to Palau too, so contact me if you decide you might like to join us!
