Rene Zuch 0 Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) Hi, I experimented yesterday in a pool and wanted to share some of the results with you. All done with the Nikon D800 and the Nikon 16-35mm and a prototype of a new dome. I went with Nat a good friend of mine. She already had some experience with this kind of stuff and is a diver what surely helps. In the end my daughter 3.5 years was jealous and wanted to be a model as well. I´m interested in your feedback. Cheers René Edited April 22, 2013 by Rene Zuch
loftus 42 Posted April 23, 2013 I like #3, #1 as well. A comment on model posing. Limbs towards or away from the camera and not in the image plane are distorted, so it's important to instruct the model on this. In image #1 the distortion can be assumed to be intentional and works, in #2, the knees and feet look too big and and hands too small, the distortion can be assumed to be unintended so it does not work. Rene Zuch 0 Posted April 23, 2013 Hi Loftus, I'm aware of this problem. But sometimes it's not possible to avoid (because it limits creativity too much) and I found out it's possible to correct this later on in the software, eventhough it's not easy. I did not spent much time on these pics in postprocessing yet. Thanks for your feedback. René
asmigel 0 Posted April 23, 2013 Rene, Great shots! I really like # 3 because of the reflections - but that is my personal preference, utilizing the unique aspects of shooting underwater to enhance the images. Nat looks very comfortable underwater! Sometimes the hardest part is finding a good model ~abi
E_viking 30 Posted April 23, 2013 Nice Pictures. I prefer #3 as well, due to the surface reflections and a more "natural" look. /Erik
raarsen 8 Posted April 23, 2013 +1 for #3. Very nice. Can you tell us more about the lighting and dome? --Rob
Rene Zuch 0 Posted April 23, 2013 @All Thanks for your feedback. My daughter is a bit sad that nobody recognized her potential to become a Nr. one model. @abi You're right. To find a good model is maybe the hardest part. And Nat does this job really great and is fun to be with. @Rob The lighting was done with two Ikelite DS161 strobes. The dome is a prototype from uwcamerastuff and it´s a 8" full half-sphere(sounds strange but hope you know what I mean). There are still some buoyancy problems to solve with it as it really wants to float up, but the optical quality and corner sharpness is excellent. And problems are there to solve. Here are some more pics: Regards René
diver dave1 23 Posted April 24, 2013 The photo's of your model make me say, 'nice' or 'very nice'. The photo of your daughter made me smile. So the model touched my sense of appreciation but your daughter touched me deeper. No matter how much we try the artistic, the joy of a child is hard to beat.
