Inon 165 M67 or Subsee +5

[Deep6 7]

I remember comments/reviews about these wet diopters, but I can't seem to find the link. Please help or respond with your opinion about these two lenses.

Subsee slightly less magnification better optical quality cannot be stacked vignettes at wide end

Inon some fringing can be stacked cheaper does not vignette at wide end

I was in the same situation, but was recommended the Dyron +7, it's stackable and have higher magnification. I just receive it last week so I haven't use it in real dive. But so far a lot of good review at Bluewater. You might want to add it to the list of consideration.

What I can't get my head around in those shots is why the subsee 5 can produce a better image than the Inon, the lens have the same construction it is a mystery.

Maybe is the amount of airspace between the two elements?? Or is it because all 4 lens surfaces on the subsee 5 have antireflective coating?

 

Also in UK nobody uses Dyron since a batch of lenses some years ago started rusting

The "Dyron" lens I receive doesn't say Dyron on it, and it's made in Japan. After checking out the manual, it's the UNCU-02 from this website:

Again, I don't know why Bluewater "rebrand" the stuff they sell.

It is possible that Dyron gets them done in Japan

It says focal length 10 cm that would be a +10 diopter but maybe in water it looses power and becomes less?

What is the spec it has been sold to you?

I doubt Dyron "outsource" the manufacturing of its lens to this UN brand company. If they do, at least they would stamp the Dyron name on the lens.

 

The manual say it's x6 magnification, Bluewater's site say it's +7, confusing right?

 

This is my first macro lens so I don't know what to expect and I can only tell its quality after I use it. The plan is to get a Subsee +5 in the future and stack the Subsee on the "Dyron".

It is possible that the +7 is on land and the +6 is in water

However if it says focal length 10cm it is actually a +10.

I would think it is most likely a +6 in water and I do not believe Bluewater are in bad faith

I have used both and really found them to be equal for the most part and great products. For what ever reason I did find it much easier to focus with the sub +5. I could always get the inon to focus but my camera would hunt a lot longer than with the sub which for some may not be a issue but it drove me nuts. That could just be a olympus thing but not sure. I also found it a nightmare to focus with stacked inons and just gave up on that all together. I have heard the stached focus issue from a few people so I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor.
