SMY 15 Posted May 17, 2013 As i understood filters like the magic filter or the Kodak Wratten 85 are orange and therefore perfect down to 15m. Is a red filter better, if you go deeper? and if so, which one? Second question: if you use this filters is manaul white balance mandatory? Thanks for all help,
Don in Colorado 2 Posted May 17, 2013 Are you shooting with a strobe or natural light? If you are using a strobe, the Magic Filter works pretty well on Olympus 5050 cameras, white balance set to auto. I am sure everybody will disagree with this. If you shoot in raw, you can forget about white balance in the camera, and do the white balance at home on the computer. I never bother with white balance underwater. coroander 16 Posted May 21, 2013 I've shot available light with the 8mm FE on the OM-D using a magic filter. Using auto white balance and with the shooting forward and down with the sun behind me the colours were fantastic. If i was making a point of shooting available light video with the 8mm i'd use the magic filter again, but it's just not that desirable when using strobes or even shooting avaialble light stills (raw) in many circumstances.
