john70490 3 Posted June 4, 2013 If anybody here owns or has tried this video light, I would be interested to hear your opinion. £345 for a compact, light-weight video lamp with 3600 lumen output seems attractive bur I cannot find an objective review. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151057432460?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_1816wt_1867
Davide DB 583 Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) It's a bargain for such a light. The problem with nearly all manufacturers is that they state their lumen output simply taking the maximum theoretical numbers from led producers... CREE XM-L family has several binnings. From their datasheet I see: Cree XM-L brightness at 3A T5 845-910 lm @ 3.0A T6 910-975 lm @ 3.0A* U2 975-1040 lm @ 3.0A U3 1040-1105 lm @ 3.0A We don't know which kind of XM led is there. Assuming is a U3 bin driven at 3A, the 1100 lumen output is at 25°C that is nearly impossible to obtain in a real application. Anyway this is a problem of 99% of lights specs out there Nobody has a lab to test the real lumen output. Maybe Keldan... but $$$ For that price it seems a good bargain. Drew 0 Posted June 5, 2013 Backscatter sent a few lights to be tested by Deepsea, and published a comparison test. It is possible to test but the point is whether it makes economic sense. Perhaps if we had sponsors to fund such tests. It isn't the most accurate test since it's still in air vs water.
jonny shaw 16 Posted June 6, 2013 Can you control the brightness?
john70490 3 Posted June 6, 2013 Can you control the brightness? No, just one output.

With respect, Drew, the test is hardly relevant to this thread since the Light-for-me 3XML is not included.
Pete L 48 Posted June 6, 2013 Personally i wouldn't want a set of lights that only had 1 power setting. Just my opinion of course, 3600 lumens is a lot of light. When doing macro i usually only have my lights on either 250 or 500 lumens. Cheers Pete.
jonny shaw 16 Posted June 7, 2013 ha ha, one setting on 3600 is very very restrictive.
