Dickie Doyle, of Garove Island, PNG has sadly passed away.

Recommended Posts

I am sobbing right now. I just Learned that a legendary man, who I could call friend, has passed away. Dickie Doyle was an Aussie who managed a copra/cocoa plantation on a tiny island in Papua New Guinea called Garove Island. He was best friends with Alan Raabe, who owned the dive boat, MV FeBrina, that I dived from many times while in PNG. Through Alan, I met this man. He had incredible intelligence and generosity. Even living on an island with no electricity, he managed to use a radio to stay better informed on world current events than most humans on the planet. One of my most prized possessions is a canoe paddle that had belonged to his beloved wife, Tao, who had died. He knew I would treasure it, so made sure I got it.

Rest in peace, Dickie. You will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have made your acquaintance. I shall now go sob some more........

That is sad news.

I was on the Febrina a couple of months ago and Dickie was hitching a ride back home. He was onboard for 6 days.

It was always interesting to hear his stories during lunch & dinner.

Sad new indeed.

Dickie was always hitching rides on the FeBrina. I was always happy when he would join my trips with Alan. He had the very best stories and I learned so much about PNG, the people and the culture from him.

It was always a favourite part of the trip to have Dickie join for Dinner and if you got lucky a few days of stories and good company.

RIP Dickie.

Dickie was good company. Had the good fortunate to meet him a few times. The inevitable part of life, unfortunately. RIP.

Sad news indeed. I had the pleasure of meeting him in 2009 on a trip on the FeBrina. RIP Dickie.
